Let’s be entirely truthful, the concept car moniker attached to the Mercedes-Benz Shooting Break doesn’t mean much. What we are looking at is the next generation of the ground-breaking CLS four-door coupe (albeit in wagon form).
If Chevrolet’s jet black Impala SS from the mid-1990s belonged to Darth Vader, behold the Emperor’s new ride, known as the FireBreather. Unveiled Friday in a spiffy ceremony at Detroit’s AutoRama, this oh-so-sexy Hollywood machine features 20 million layers of deep black paint over custom body work that has an undeniable late 1970s Firebird flavor, combined with menacing wheels and glowing red trim on the front clip. Call it sinister, or evil, or wickedly delightful; just don’t call it a Firebird Camaro.
Kia’s latest concept, the Ray, is one of the more beautiful things that we’ve seen from the automaker as of late. It’s a swoopy, fluid design, and it certainly looks the part of a battery-electric hybrid.
Only a few months after Toyota pulled the wraps off of its all-new Sienna minivan, Honda is following suit with an updated version of its strong-selling Odyssey. And while Honda is referring to the van on display at this year’s Chicago Auto Show as a concept, we’re sure that it’s just a few small tweaks away from being production ready.
Just a few weeks after Hyundai pulled the wraps off of its Blue-Will plug-in hybrid concept, sister company Kia will now be showing an electric concept of its own at this year’s Chicago Auto Show.
As promised, here are those pictures of the shiny Volkswagen New Compact Coupe hybrid concept vehicle revealed at the Detroit show today.
Today, Mini displayed the Beachcomber Concept at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Earlier, we showed some photos Mini had released in advance of the show. Now we have this gallery straight from the show floor.
Audi is showing another version of its e-Tron electric concept car. Besides a slightly different look, the Detroit showcar is powered by only two electric motors, which power the rear wheels. It weighs less than 3000 pounds, and goes from 0-62 miles per hour in 5.9 seconds (over a second longer than the four-wheel-drive e-Tron).
Replete with circuit graphics, huge branding, and cutting-edge blue-wall tires, BMW debuted its EV 1-Series concept, the ActiveE, at the North American International Auto Show this morning.
Volkswagen unveiled its newest concept hybrid vehicle at the Detroit Auto Show this morning. Cleverly, it’s called the New Compact Coupe.
This morning, GMC unveiled its new small car offering, the Granite concept. The little urban cruiser is about two feet shorter than the smallish Terrain, and is a whole new style of thinking for the GMC brand.
We have a confession to make: In its current form, the Chevrolet Aveo has been the butt of many a joke within the automotive industry. It isn’t nearly as good as anything else in the class, and in a time when more focus is being put on B- and C-segment cars, General Motors really disappointed with its smallest offering. But a new version is on the horizon. And judging by the preliminary information about the Aveo RS show car (which will appear next week at the Detroit Auto Show), drastic changes are in the works.
Honda has revealed a new small concept car, cleverly named the Honda New Small Concept, at the New Delhi Auto Expo. It is a compact, five-door commuter, which Honda intends to sell in India and Thailand beginning in 2011.
Toyota is pleased with its new Sienna minivan, seeing it as a fresh alternative to the dumpy, uncool image usually associated with these oft-ridiculed people-haulers. Winding Road’s Seyth Miersma found out if it lived up to the hype, leaving us to paw through the WR family photo albums for past MPVs that transcend their unflattering stereotypes. Surely, the Sienna wasn’t the first vehicle of its kind to attempt to appeal to the more savvy soccer moms.
On Tuesday, we broke the news that Cadillac would be unveiling an all-new concept car (teaser image shown above), as well as the production-ready CTS-V Coupe at next month’s Detroit Auto Show. And while the details on the V-badged Caddy Coupe are pretty much set in stone, we could only come up with speculation about what the concept car would be.
Cadillac’s Art & Science design language will be heightened at this January’s Detroit Auto Show. GM’s non-Buick luxury division will be previewing an entirely new concept car, and we’re told it’s nothing we’ve seen before, so go ahead and rule out any possibility of a production ATS sedan to rival the C-Class and 3-Series.
Today, BMW offers images and information about its ActiveE concept, an all-electric version of the 1-Series coupe.
Ahead of the Detroit show next month, Mini is releasing images and information about its Beachcomber concept car.
Aston Martin showed the first official photos of its luxury city car, the Cygnet concept. And it is adorable!
We’re out in Beverly Hills, California, for our first drive of the 2010 Hyundai Tucson (stay tuned for our full review), but during this morning’s press conference, Hyundai’s CEO, John Krafcik, detailed some information about upcoming product plans for the 2010 and 2011 calendar years.
File this one under the “weird = cool” category. Honda’s Personal-Neo Urban Transport (P-NUT) concept is nothing short of futuristic, and shows what possibilities are in store for city cars moving forward. The weird angles and funky shape are the work of Honda’s Los Angeles design crew.
