Toyota is showing the future of the Prius family today in Detroit, and the Prius C Concept is the small, more urban version of the popular hybrid. Nissan has announced a new concept EV for urban detail in a zero-emissions society. Called the Nissan New Mobility Concept, it is the next step in the automaker’s goal to lead the way in emissions-free driving technology.
Nissan took the wraps off of its Ellure Concept at the LA Auto Show. Nissan is insistent that the Ellure isn’t a preview of any upcoming product, although it does follow a great deal of current Nissan styling. The headlights, taillights, and front grille wouldn’t look out of place on the current Maxima, while the rear haunches look to have been peeled off of the 370Z.
Cadillac has unveiled its Urban Luxury Concept at the LA Auto Show. The small hatchback is powered by a turbocharged, 1.0-liter, three-cylinder engine and features quite a bit of green technology. With a start-stop function, regenerative brakes, and a dual-clutch transmission, as well as an electric motor, the ULC is theoretically capable of achieving 56 miles per gallon in the city and 65 mpg on the highway.
Mazda has just unveiled the striking Shinari concept car. Featuring Mazda’s KODO design language, the Shinari is a four-door coupe in the mold of the Aston Martin Rapide and Mercedes-Benz CLS. A low riding car, with a classic long hood and short rear deck, the Shinari is a pure concept to illustrate Mazda’s future design direction.
Set to debut at the EICMA motorcycle show this year in Milan, the BMW Concept C is a big scooter with the future at its front wheel.
Audi has just unveiled the Quattro Concept. With a turbocharged inline-five producing 408 horsepower and Quattro all-wheel drive, the new Concept carries on the proud name of this rally legend. With a six-speed manual transmission, Audi expects the Quattro to hit 62 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds.

BMW has taken the wraps off of its Concept 6-Series Coupe a few weeks before the Paris Motor Show. This may be labeled as “Concept” but it is really a concept car in name only. With the exception of a few details that have been gussied up for auto show duty, word is that this coupe is essentially our first look at the new 6-Series, which will likely debut as a 2012 model.

Land Rover has unveiled the newest entry to the Range Rover line, the Evoque, at the brand’s 40th Birthday celebration in London. The Evoque is the production version of the LRX Concept which debuted in 2008.
Concept cars serve many purposes; technology demonstrators, gauges of public opinion, and indications of future design direction, to name just a few. Unfortunately, as cool as some concept cars may be, they aren’t always followed up by production versions. In fact, some of the very coolest concept cars are pure thought/design exercises.
This weekend, VW will be debuting its new Passat Wagon Emergency Response Vehicle. Loaded up with all manner of tuner goodies, the Passat ERV was designed for the Herndon, Virginia Police Department.
