BMW recently introduced its ActiveHybrid X6, the crossover that uses a powerful dual-mode hybrid system to improve city and highway fuel economy. Most recently at the LA Auto Show, the U.S. version of the ActiveHybrid 7-Series appeared in something other than a press release
While BMW did just release details about the showroom-ready Z4 sDrive35is (pictured above), individual racers will be getting a hotter new offering next year—the Z4 GT3, which will be poised to compete in the FIA GT3 European Championship, International GT Open, and ADAC GT Masters, as well as other twenty-four-hour endurance races.
Saab is done for. So it goes. But, what of the brand loyalists? What will they do when they’re done swallowing sadness and it’s time to buy a new car? Who will offer a new home to the Saab orphans?
Here are the top ten brands.
Yesterday we showed you the BMW ActiveE concept, an electric version of the 1-Series coupe. This video is BMW’s promo for the vehicle.
Today, BMW offers images and information about its ActiveE concept, an all-electric version of the 1-Series coupe.
The BMW 7-Series is already a pretty potent performer with either the twin-turbo V-8 (750i) or the range-topping V-12 (760i). But a new report shows that BMW will be adding six-cylinder power to the 7 lineup in 2011, by way of the 740i and 740iL sedans.
Kiss the CLK-Class goodbye—the debut of the new 2011 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Convertible marks the end of CLK badging, but ushers in a sexy new convertible poised to take on the Audi A5 and BMW 3-Series droptops.
In automotive terms, a “sleeper” is a car that doesn’t look like it’ll do much damage, but once it hits the road, it’s a real performance dream. Think of the Mazdaspeed3 or BMW 335d—two cars that don’t look all that vicious but are really stunning machines to steer. These cars, however, are just the opposite.
Is that you, M Roadster? We’ve fallen madly in love with the new BMW Z4, especially the 35i with its twin-turbo inline-six and Boxster-hunting driving dynamics. And while we’ve secretly been hoping for an M-badged version, it looks like this new model, the sDrive35is, will be as closest thing we’ll get. (That’s fine.) Look for the 35is to make its official debut next month at the Detroit Auto Show.
Our spy photographer just sent over these shots of the updated BMW 3-Series in winter testing. Still under heavy camouflage, we can at least get a sense of the revised front and rear fascia, lighting, and mirrors.
If a nonsensical vehicle like the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S tickles your fancy, you may want to leave space on your bedroom wall for another drool-worthy pinup. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the BMW X5M. It has 555 horsepower, it runs a tuned version of BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system, and it costs $85,400—that’s a whopping $40,900 less than the starting price of Madam Cayenne. And if you immediately think to yourself, “Well, clearly this is because the Porsche is a superior vehicle,” you’ll want to think again. The X5M is as good to drive as it is unnecessary to own.
During our drive through the woodsy, hilly roads of southern New York and northern New Jersey, there was one question that kept cropping up during every conversation about the new BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo: “What is this thing?”
Our spy photographer caught this Lotus prototype out testing. Could it be a mule for a V-8 engine for the new Lotus Esprit?
Our spy photographer has sent us shots of the new BMW M3 Coupe, giving us a good look at its updated rear end.
Back in early November, we drove the all-new BMW 550i Gran Turismo around the hilly, tree-lined roads of northern New Jersey and southern New York. While we were out on the United States’ eastern seaboard, the good people of BMW brought along a slew of other cars for us to test, including the all-electric Mini E. We’ve driven (and loved) the full range of gasoline and diesel-powered Minis, but would our affection stand true to the battery-powered E?
BMW unveiled its all new, sixth-generation 5-Series today in Munich, Germany, bringing to an end a lengthy wait to have a first look at the new car, and instantly offering a stern competitor for the recently launched Mercedes-Benz E-Class line.
Lately, we’ve seen many examples of updated BMWs coming through the espionage pipeline. These latest spy shots, though, aren’t just another appearance update.
Take a close look at the sticker on the window and under the license plate. It reads, in plain English, “Hybrid Test Vehicle.” Caught in Munich, the 1-series appears to be following in the tire tracks of the 7-Series and X6 ActiveHybrid models we have already seen.
These are the latest spy photos of the BMW 6-Series convertible in testing. Our sources now tell us that it will not get a retractable hard top, as we once thought. The 6-Series will be offered as a soft-top convertible, seen here, and as a coupe.
At long last, a hardcore, track-ready version of the latest BMW M3 Coupe has been released, set to go on sale in the Spring of 2010. But unlike the M3 CSLs of the E46 generation, this new M3 GTS is significantly lighter, more powerful, and has a long list of track-friendly upgrades.
Taking the fabulous BMW 335i and trying to make it better than an M3 is a tempting but difficult exercise. Not only is the M3 a very good car, so is the 335i. If anyone has a chance to pull this off, it would be Dinan, the long-standing mega tuners of BMWs in the U.S.
World and European motorcycle stunt-riding champion Chris Pfeiffer has been honored by BMW today, as the Motorrad arm of the German manufacturer has announced an eponymous tribute to the rider—the F800R Chris Pfeiffer.
