The Toyota Camry is a good car. There…we said it.
Actually, it is a good car, in much the same way that vanilla ice cream is a good dessert. It’s tasty, refreshing, and provided you don’t experience brain freeze resulting from unintended mass consumption, devouring a dish is generally a pleasurable experience. It’s also, well, rather dull. Especially if one commits to a steady diet of the stuff for more than a week. For the sake of our readers, we’ll spare the disgusting details by simply saying the ick factor hits quick—real quick. This is why we suspect ordering plain vanilla ice cream seldom happens, despite its abundance around the world. There are far more delectable dishes on the menu for pretty much the same price, and since this isn’t the latest issue of Calories Galore, you probably get the metaphor by now.
Online merchant Gilt.com and Volkswagen are teaming up this weekend to sell three, 2011 Volkswagon Jettas at a rather attractive discount price—Just $5995 per car. The price represents a ten thousand-dollar discount over the Jetta’s retail MSRP of $15,995.
Recently, our spy photographer caught a glimpse of the upcoming Audi Q3. Today, he sent us these spy photos showing it testing on the road.
Volkswagen has debuted a facelifted version of its droptop Eos in sunny LA. The new Eos receives the Volkswagen family front end, along with a spate of LED lights both front and rear.
We’re surprised at how we feel about this newest set of spy shots that just landed on our desk, of the updated Volkswagen Beetle.
Leica’s new M9 limited edition camera was designed by Volkswagen Group’s chief designer, Walter Maria de’Silva. A photographic tool, as well as a collector’s item, the Leica M9 is constructed of titanium, limited to 500 units, and offered as a set with a Leica Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH lens.
The Aston Martin Rapide, Porsche Panamera, Audi A7, Volkswagen CC, and to a lesser extent the BMW 5-Series GT all owe a large part of their existence to the success of the Mercedes-Benz CLS. Unveiled in 2004, the CLS was a segment buster, responsible for creating the four-door coupe craze that has been such a huge part of the luxury segment over the past six years. It has grown it bit long in the tooth though, so Mercedes is updating the CLS in time for the 2010 Paris Motor Show.
Once upon a time, topless cars came in all shapes and sizes, and by that we mean all sizes. At 4500 pounds and sporting a wheelbase of 130 inches, the gloriously finned 1959 Cadillac Eldorado convertible was just a few inches behind a modern full size pickup truck in size. Its convertible top used enough canvas to cover a mobile home, and four people could fit comfortably in the back seat alone, never mind the wide bench up front and the endless trunk space out back. That was a convertible—drop the top, load up the family, the dog, the neighbors, and your in-laws, and head out for a day of windburns and suntans.
Our sneaky spy photographer managed to get these first photos of the Audi Q3.
The WR staff has had a whole lot of seat time in the standard Jetta TDI, thanks to our yearlong loan of that sedan during 2008-2009. I really enjoyed the basic version of the diesel sedan, so I was really looking forward to our loan of the hotter car.
Volkswagen has just unveiled its sixth-generation Jetta at a massive celebration in New York’s Times Square. The new Jetta has done away with the questionable looks (no more chrome nose!) of the current model, and instead has been given a more chiseled look, that puts it in line with the current face of the VW range.
While on the hunt for secret sheet metal in the European Alps, our spy photographer happened upon this Volkswagen Race Touareg 2 taking a break from some tests.
We have just taken delivery of Volkswagen’s new Jetta TDI Cup Edition. Think of this special edition as a Jetta GLI with a diesel motor, instead of the 2.0T I-4. Our tester features a Cup-edition body kit, a six-speed DSG, sunroof, and the GTI’s signature Interlagos Plaid seats.
Our spy photographer has been catching updated Volkswagens out in the open lately, and the Passat Wagon was the latest to find itself in his crosshairs, here testing in Europe.
What do $30K sedans tell us about the state of mass-market car-making, circa 2010?
The Volkswagen Passat is getting a facelift, as evidenced by the most recent spy photos.
The Volkswagen CC is one of those cars that you find yourself enjoying even though it doesn’t exactly fit the stereotype of either a driver’s car or a luxury car.
