These spy photos of the next Mercedes-Benz S-Class came through this morning. They show us some of the changes that have already been made, and hint at more changes yet to come before it goes on sale in 2012.
We now have a second set of spy shots of the Mercedes-Benz SL in winter testing, this time with a little bit less camouflage. This new batch of images shows the actual headlights that will go on the production model.
These spy shots show the successor to the Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG chugging along through the snow and ice.
Yesterday, Mercedes GP Petronas (formerly Brawn GP) launched its 2010 Formula 1 team. The Silver Arrows also showed off their livery on the car that will be driven by the returning Michael Schumacher.
As we reflect on the past year, it’s hard not to think about the best cars we tested over the last twelve months. We feature our Top 12 Cars of 2009 in Issue 54 of Winding Road, which is now available to read online, or you can buy and download a PDF.
As drivers, we very rarely get to sample the nice rear seats that automakers put into their latest and greatest cars. Whether it’s for the purpose of luxury or functionality, rear seats have come a long way from the standard benches of yore, and this list is a true testament to some cars being better suited for passengers, rather than those behind the steering wheel.
It’s been a bit since we’ve had some automotive espionage come our way, but today, we have these spy shots of the new Mercedes-Benz SL testing in below-zero temperatures in northern Europe.
In this gallery, we see the more powerful 2011 E550 Convertible from the 2010 North American International Auto Show
Mercedes-Benz announced the E-Class Convertible ahead of the Detroit Auto Show, but we now have photos from the show floor.
We have just received the cover art for the upcoming PS3 title, Gran Turismo 5. We’re happy to see our favorite new gullwing, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG on the cover.
The CLS Estate will take a lot of its design direction from the original Mercedes-Benz ConceptFASCINATION (shown above), and its underpinnings will be a heavily revised version of the E-Class platform. In speaking with Autocar, a source at Mercedes-Benz says that the CLS Estate has been in the works since around 2004, and that a concept version was originally supposed to be shown at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show.
This is not a drive feature exclusive, no, but we were going 87 miles per hour while at the wheel of the new “A207” Mercedes E-Class convertible that lands in North America in June 2010 after a January 11 European launch. Driving “no hands”, too. Beside us, riding shotgun, was a beautifully stoic and bald woman named Tanja. We exchanged no words, enjoying the ride of the open-top Merc at the dawn of a new winter.
Mercedes-Benz’s line of AMG cars are potent performers, and the much-loved 6.2-liter, naturally aspirated V-8 lies at the heart of every AMG currently available (save the SLK and G, of course). And while we’ve grown very fond of this sweet-sounding mill over the past years, a report from Edmunds’ Inside Line reveals that our 6.2-liter bomber might not be around much longer.
Just in case you were planning on getting a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster when it becomes available, then driving it around in the snow, it currently is undergoing cold weather testing to make sure it’s up to snuff.
Kiss the CLK-Class goodbye—the debut of the new 2011 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Convertible marks the end of CLK badging, but ushers in a sexy new convertible poised to take on the Audi A5 and BMW 3-Series droptops.
We like the Mercedes-Benz GLK well enough. The small SUV’s chunky styling has split opinion at the Winding Road office, but we all agree that it’s a pretty good steer, and a really nice size for real world SUV use. None of us have ever requested a 750 horsepower, 995 pound-feet of torque, V-12 engined version of the GLK. Of course, none of us work for the sublimely nutty Brabus, either.
Our spy photographer has sent us some shots of some forbidden fruit from the wintry north of Sweden. The new Mercedes-Benz B-Class, dressed up to keep prying eyes from seeing too much metal, is in cold-weather testing.
Our ever-vigilant spy photographer delivered these photos of the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Wat we can see from the photos are updates to the headlights, hood,…
The new aluminum SLS built in Sindelfingen, Germany stays dead even with the carbon-fiber SLR built in the UK until early this year. Though the naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V-8 in the SLS has 54 less horsepower (down 9 percent) and 96 fewer pound-feet of torque (down 17 percent) than the supercharged 5.5-liter V-8 in the SLR, the SLS weighs 328 pounds less (also down 9 percent), has much finer dynamics, and better technology. Acceleration on both cars to 60 mph therefore stands at 3.6 seconds and both lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife in just 7:40. The SLS just does it all with better behavior and efficiency.
Whether it’s badged as a Dodge, Mercedes-Benz, or Freightliner, we can’t deny our undying affection for the Sprinter van. So much room, so many uses, and those magnificent air-ride seats—what’s not to love? In our appreciation for the ultimate moving machine, we present our list of ten truly spectacular custom Sprinters.
With the new E-Class, Mercedes-Benz is doing its best to get beyond the “middle child” reputation that most cars in this class seem to have. Neither fish nor fowl, mid-sized Euro sedans (e.g. 5-Series, A6 and S-Type) have lacked the sportiness of their smaller brethren, while also giving up the luxury and presence of the parent company’s flagship sedan. In the case of Mercedes-Benz, we thought the last generation E-Class was rather bland and characterless.
So, when we found ourselves liking the new E350 Sport quite a bit, we were pleasantly surprised. It is still a middle of the road kind of car, but this time M-B dialed in some attractions for the driver that greatly helped us make sense of the car. If you want a good daily driver, not a four-door sports car, this one is worth a look.
