It may not be coming back to North America, but the Datsun nameplate is set to return to the automotive stage. The announcement was made during a press conference in Jakarta, Indonesia by Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn.
Day one of the 2012 Geneva Motor Show is pretty much over. There was quite a bit of new and exciting sheemetal crossing the stages today, and we made sure to cover as much as we could. This is your spot if you happened to miss any of today’s Swiss stories. We’ll be updating this list as more cars are debuted on day two. Also, look for a finalized version of this list soon.
Joining the Hi-Cross and Infiniti Emerge-E at the Nissan exhibit is this diminutive hatchback. Called the Invitation, this concept car previews a future B-segment entry from Nissan that will slot between the tiny Micra city car and the relatively portly Juke crossover.
Nissan has just taken the wraps off of its Hi-Cross crossover concept. This design study points at future styling directions for the Juke and Murano, and the European Qashqai crossovers.
The automotive market is continually changing, and perhaps nowhere is this more apparent than in electric propulsion and hybrid systems. And, the pace of change is only increasing—more and more manufacturers are creating hybrid variants of their cars or going all out and introducing completely new EVs like the Nissan Leaf. However, the annual Global Automotive Executive Survey put out by KPMG, a global audit and tax advisory firm, reports that the number of new electric vehicles merging onto the road is going to level off for the next decade or so.
This system has a scooped out midrange that makes music seem less clear and articulate than it does on many other systems. Add that to the somewhat higher noise level that is endemic to convertibles, and you have less than ideal audio. Bass is strong, but doesn’t go that deep nor seem as clean as on the better OEM systems. Nissan’s interface is pretty straightforward, but the placement of the controls is a bit scattered.
Nissan unveiled its revised, 2013 370Z before tomorrow’s Chicago Auto Show press day begins. The 2013 Z is a refresh of the sixth-generation Z that debuted in 2009, meaning that the guts of the beloved Z are the same (3.7-liter V-6, with a six-speed stick or seven-speed auto). That means 332 horsepower as standard, while the hotter Nismo Z comes to market with a solid 350 horsepower.
We’ve been aching to see the Nissan Juke-R, Godzilla’s maniacal, crossover cousin in action for quite a while, and now that footage has arrived. This is the Juke-R, battling a Ferrari 458 Italia, a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, and a Lamborghini Gallardo on the streets of Dubai.
Taking price point, overall capacity, fun-to-drive factor, and style into consideration, the Murano has some stiff competition at this ($40K) high-spec level. It’s fair to say that, like most vehicles, when you shop Murano in the middle of it’s pricing spectrum, you get a far better value for each dollar you plunk down than you can expect at the top trim level. As my fellows above point out, there’s a lot to like about Murano, but how does it stack up against the significant competitors?
Ladies and gentlemen, we have before us something of a quandary.
In the modern motoring world of pricy gasoline and pricier diesel, sourcing a vehicle that can turn 30 miles per gallon or greater on the highway isn’t hard. And we’re not talking about anemic little econoboxes with bodies made from tin foil–these days being frugal can mean a handsomely optioned mid-sizer like a Nissan Altima, or a sporty 300-plus-horsepower speed machine like a V-6 Mustang.
Nissan unveiled the Pathfinder Concept at today’s North American International Auto Show as a thinly veiled preview of the 2013 production model, which is set to arrive at dealerships this coming Fall.
The Pathfinder is motivated by a V-6 of undisclosed displacement and output, while shifting doesn’t really happen at all, thanks to a continuously variable transmission. This combination should be good for a 25-percent increase in overall fuel economy. No seven-passenger SUV worth its salt would come to market without an all-wheel-drive option, and the Pathfinder Concept is no exception. It should also be quite capable in the realm of towing.
So what, if anything, should/will make this new Malibu stand out to you? How can a reasonably resurgent Chevy hope to compete with the numbers game so stacked against its gas/electric warrior? Chevy’s answer, one that should interest the typical Winding Road reader, we’d guess, is that the Malibu is a better, more engaging, less hybrid-like car to drive.
With the North American International Auto Show comes the announcement for the winners of the prestigious North American Car of the Year and North American Truck of the Year. This year’s group has been narrowed down to three cars and three trucks.
Last week was the beginning of the Tokyo Motor Show, which saw some new concept and production cars hit the stage. Have a look below to see our coverage of the show.
At the Tokyo Motor show, Nissan displayed its Pivo 3 electric vehicle concept. The small, 1+2 compact EV is intended for urban use, and was built as a more “realistic” concept car in terms of usability.
It’s fair to say we like funky Japanese vans here at Winding Road. So when a new one comes out, we get a tad bit excited, regardless of whether it’ll ever arrive on this side of the pond. Such is the case with the Nissan NV350, Nissan’s new cab-over-engine light commercial van.
Nissan is expanding its performance brand, Nismo, and the Leaf concept follows the Juke Nismo concept’s debut at the Tokyo Motor Show.
Just before its premiere at the Tokyo Motor Show, Nissan has previewed the exciting Juke Nismo Concept. It takes the the popular, young compact crossover, and makes it even more in tune with the enthusiast mindset and driving style.
I’m always impressed by the smoothness in the Chevy Volt’s ride. It feels like it glides across the surface of the road, but in a way that doesn’t feel floaty or unstable. The smoothness of the power delivery compounds this sensation, and anyone I’ve had in the car with me has made mention of it. For reference, another car that offers a remarkable gliding sensation would be the Hyundai Sonata Turbo.
