Traditionally looked at as a tune-up for the 24 Hours Of Le Mans that takes place in June, Sebring has played host to some of the world’s greatest drivers, cars, and teams over the course of six decades of racing. It’s been a major race in three distinct championship series (World Sportscar Championship, IMSA, and the American Le Mans Series).

Secondhand Gems: Ferrari Dreams

There are cheaper, quicker, more reliable alternatives to owning a Ferrari. There are other machines that look positively stunning from all angles while still delivering pure motoring brilliance. There are other vehicles that motivate drivers with endless powerbands and delicious aural soundtracks, born from the act of converting gasoline into horsepower. There are cars that deliver all the above without the need for frequent service schedules that can top $10,000 per visit; in fact some of them can even reach 100,000 miles with just some oil changes and a few sets of tires. There are many sensible, logical reasons why an auto enthusiast shouldn’t purchase a Ferrari. But for many, that’s exactly the reason why they do.

Base Versus Loaded: 2012 Audi R8 Spyder 5.2

There aren’t a lot of supercar manufacturers that will openly publicize how much a car costs while using an online configurator. Try and get a price on that pretty, new Ferrari FF you just built, and you’ll be disappointed. It’s worse at Lamborghini, which doesn’t even offer an online configurator. Thankfully, Audi also builds cars that the a large percentage of the 99 percent can afford, which means we can build über-equipped R8 Spyders that cost as much as your house did 10 years ago.

List: Top Ten Racecars Of 2011

Being an automotive journalist is a pretty cool job. We drive sweet cars, do a lot of traveling, and generally get to be car guys for 40 hours a week. That being said, if you asked any of the staffers at Winding Road if there’s another job they’d rather have, odds are racecar driver would be pretty high up on the list. That’s right, we’re all big race fans, and 2011 has been a great year for new race cars. Why list our favorites? Because racecar.

First Look: 2013 Ford Shelby GT500

We like this modern Muscle Car War that’s been going on. As if Chevrolet’s upcoming Camaro ZL1 wasn’t attractive enough with its 580-horsepower 6.2-liter supercharged V-8, Ford has now announced a 650-horsepower (!) GT500. Let’s put that number in perspective. It’s 12 more horsepower than a Corvette ZR1, 30 more than a Porsche 911 GT2 RS, and it’s about equal to the Ferrari FF. Yes, there’s more to life than just horsepower, but a 650-horsepower Mustang that comes with a factory warranty is enough to inspire jaw-on-the-floor stares.

List: The Ten Greatest Movie Cars

We like movies. More importantly, we like movies that feature cars as integral parts of the story. So we’ve put together a list of ten of the most influential, important, and downright entertaining vehicles in cinema history. Quite simply, these cars made the movies as much as any flesh-and-blood actor. Of course, there will be disputes about just whether we should have included Mad Max’s Ford Falcon, James Bond’s Toyota 2000GT, or Herbie (wait, there probably won’t be any arguments about that last one). We’re pretty confident with our choices though. So without further ado, read on for our list of the ten greatest cars from the movies.

Ferrari 458 Spyder To Start At $257,000

Automotive New Europe has broken the pricing story on the hot looking Ferrari 458 Spyder. The droptop version of the two-seat supercar will retail for $257,000 when it finally hits US shores. That price is only a 15-percent increase on the hardtop, which is actually in line with the rest of the industry when it comes to convertible premiums (for example, the Mustang GT only sees a 14-percent increase for a droptop).

Ferrari FF Offers First JBL Quantum Logic Audio System

We’re enamored with the Ferrari FF because of the brand heritage, its bold styling, the interesting use of all-wheel drive, and of course its 669-horsepower V-12 engine. Our sister publication, AVguide, has found yet another reason to love the car: its 15-speaker JBL Quantum Logic surround sound system. Here’s what AVguide has to say about the FF and its audio system on display at the 2011 Cedia Expo:

Frankfurt 2011: Frankfurt Auto Show Wrap-Up

As quickly as it began, the first media day of the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show is over. This year’s show featured no shortage of concept cars, including one designed by a racecar driver. First Look: 2012 Ferrari 458 Spider

It’s safe to say that everyone in the Winding Road offices likes the Ferrari 458 Italia quite a lot. When we drove it last year, more than one staffer came back to the office with a slack-jawed look of awe on their face. Now Ferrari has gone and made the 458 even better. By taking a can-opener to the roof, and slotting in a retractable tin-top, the crew from Maranello have created the 458 Spider.
