The Future of Electrified Muscle

Last week, Dodge unveiled what it's calling "the future of electrified muscle."  The Charger Daytona SRT is an electric performance coupe meant to carry the torch passed by the outgoing Charger and Challenger.  This new EV is touted as being faster than a Hellcat.

Yes, Please! New 911 GT3 RS Debuts

At $224k, the GT3 RS ain’t cheap, but try to think of another car that does what this does for less.  We’re pretty sure you can’t think of a car that is better for less, so we’d say the 911 GT3 RS qualifies as good value.

Jaguar Special Operations to Build Continuation Lightweight E-Types

At today’s opening reception of the Concours D’Elegance, Jaguar’s Special Operations division unveiled the Lightweight Continuation E-Type cars that their team has set out to build. Between 1961 and 1975, a mere dozen Lightweight examples of the E-Type were built by the factory, and they remain some of the most coveted Jags in history. Jaguar had originally planned to build 18 of the Lightweight E-Types, and the Special Operations team has set out to make good on that initial goal while staying as faithful to the original build process as possible.

Preview: 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat

Recently we heard rumors about a Hellcat flavored Charger making its debut soon, and today Chrysler made its existence official. Normally we’d spare you the superlatives, but this new four door Dodge boasts some particularly notable ones, as it is officially the quickest accelerating, fastest, and most powerful sedan in the world.

Preview: McLaren GT 650S Sprint

McLaren GT has taken the wraps off their latest track dedicated creation ahead of its official debut later this month at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The 650S Sprint, which replaces the outgoing 12C Sprint, will slot above the standard road-going 650S and below the 650S GT3. While the 650S Sprint is a track only vehicle, it’s also not homologated for any particular race series, making the Sprint more of a track day toy than a competition-focused racer.

Update: Cadillac CTS Gets Freshened Up for 2015

It might not seem like so long ago that Cadillac introduced an all-new CTS to the motoring public, and in fact, it was only last year that we first saw Cadillac’s new mid sized sedan. Regardless, the company saw fit to tweak a few things for 2015, and we have the details on what’s in store.

Preview: Polaris Slingshot

Back in March we got wind of a motorcycle-meets-track-day-car project in the works from Polaris by way of a patent filing. Presented as something like a cross between a Morgan Three-Wheeler and a KTM X-Bow, details were pretty scarce at that point. But now Polaris has revealed the Slingshot in production form, along with the official specifications for this sporty crossbreed.

Rumor: BMW to Celebrate Centennial With i9 Supercar

For just about any industry, 100 year anniversaries are a rare occurrence, and hitting that milestone is certainly cause for celebration. For most auto manufacturers that typically equates to a special trim package or similar treatments applied to an already existing flagship model. But BMW, which is set to hit triple digits in 2016, is rumored to be cooking up something particularly interesting to mark the occasion.

Tesla and Panasonic Officially Tie the Knot for Gigafactory Battery Facility

While the two companies have had a working relationship for many years now, this most recent development sees that partnership expand to an entirely new level, one which could yield “perhaps hundreds” of factories world wide designed to produce the cylindrical lithium-ion cells used in Tesla automobiles.

Rumor: 2015 Porsche 911 GT3 RS Revealed in Patent Photos

Porsche has been taking its time developing the hardcore version of the already potent 991 generation 911 GT3, which is understandable given the latest GT3’s inclination to spontaneously combust. Some lightly camouflaged GT3 RS test mules were spotted testing in Nürburg earlier this year, but these photographs, used for patent filing and discovered by CAR, now show us the new GT3 RS in full form.

Rumor: Aston Martin Teases Limited Production Lagonda Super Sedan

Perhaps best known for luxurious and fast sports cars like the V12 Vantage S Roadster, on rare occasions Aston Martin has also thrown their hat into the four door ring with cars like the Rapide S. But the forthcoming “strictly limited production” Lagonda, Aston Martin assures us, is something else entirely.

Rumor: Near-Production 2016 Acura NSX Spotted at Nurburgring, Appears To Require More Testing

Production time frames for the introduction of the new Acura NSX have been vague, but rumors had been circulating earlier this year that a production-based test mule might was expected to make an appearance at Goodwood last month, but those speculations never became a reality. This week, spy photographers at Nurburgring caught a glimpse of an NSX prototype lapping the ‘Ring in what appeared to be near-production form, reigniting hopes that the hybrid supercar might soon break cover. Unfortunately, events seen today at the track seem to indicate that the NSX might not be quite ready for primetime just yet.

The pony car wars show no signs of letting up any time soon. While the new Dodge Challenger, and particularly the 707hp Hellcat variant, have been stealing the limelight as of late, Ford has just announced the official specifications and output figures for its all-new Mustang, which is set to hit showrooms later this year.

Preview: 2015 Aston Martin V12 Vantage Roadster

The concept of the Aston Martin Vantage S coupe was pretty simple – take the smallest platform your portfolio and stuff the biggest engine you have in the engine bay. It resulted in a fairly fantastic sports car that we found to be quite pleasing to the eye and a lot of fun on the racetrack. So what could Aston Martin do to make it even better? Chop the top off, of course, and create the fastest roadster in the company’s history in the process.

Update: 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is a 10 Second Car (With a Caveat)

When we reported that the Challenger SRT Hellcat was officially the most powerful production muscle car ever made, we all knew the performance numbers were likely to be impressive. Still, given the Challenger’s mass, there were some reservations about just much sporting prowess 707 horsepower could provide to a car that is expected to weigh in north of 4200 pounds. Well, Dodge continues to exceed our expectations – the Hellcat is a 10 second car. But there’s a catch.

Update: 2016 Mazda MX-5 to Debut September 3rd, Engine Sound Revealed

Mazda has been teasing us with tidbits on the long-awaited fourth generation Miata for quite some time now, but it looks like our wait is nearly over. We saw the chassis and drivetrain at the New York Auto Show earlier this year, which promises weight reduction, a revamped multilink rear suspension, and a bump in power. What we didn’t get was a proper debut of the complete car – or even a promise of when that might be.

Update: 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Official HP Number Doesn’t Start With a “6”

Dodge caused quite a stir among muscle car enthusiasts when they took the wraps off the Challenger SRT Hellcat, the new top-spec offering of the brawny coupe. While the Hellcat boasts massive six-piston Brembo brakes, uprated suspension, a new optional 8-speed gearbox (a six speed manual is standard), and a host of aero tweaks to go along with its refreshed styling, the centerpiece of the model is the all-new, 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine. But they remained vague about horsepower specifics, only offering “over 600 horsepower” as any indicator of what to expect. Turns out Dodge was being rather coy.

Preview: Jaguar F-Type Project 7

First showcased as a concept car at last year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed event, the road-going tribute to the legendary D-Type caused such a sensation at the show, Jaguar decided to bring back the Project 7 for this year’s event, too. There is a notable difference, however – this one is the production version, which is set to go on sale later this year, and it’s the fastest-accelerating road car Jaguar has ever made.

Preview: Bentley Continental GT3-R

Until very recently, it’d been quite a while since a factory-entered Bentley had taken the victory in a top tier racing event in the UK. Eighty four years, to be exact. But when a Continental GT3 secured the top spot in the second round of the Blancpain Endurance Series at Silverstone, it was certainly cause for celebration. For Bentley, that meant taking this winning formula to the street in the form of a hardcore, limited edition road-going version of the GT3 race car, dubbed the Continental GT3-R, which is now the fastest accelerating Bentley ever made for the street.

Update: Mercedes-Benz Details the AMG GT’s Twin-Turbo V8

In very well articulated English, Mercedes has revealed the specifications of the new powerplant that will be installed in the AMG GT, the company’s new Porsche 911 fighter. As a replacement for the outgoing SLS AMG, the AMG GT has some pretty big shoes to fill in the Mercedes-Benz portfolio. So, how does the new twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 stack up against the retiring 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 from the SLS?
