Puritalia 427 Roadster Could Become a Reality
Quietly under development since in 2012, many thought the Puritalia 427 Roadster was destined to become another vaporware project that never actually yielded a production-ready product. Fortunately, the folks at Puritalia have poked their heads out from the garage to let the world know that the low weight, high horsepower Shelby-esque drop-top is in fact well on its way to some very real high speed testing in the near future.
Still some distance from showrooms, what you see here is the first mechanical testing prototype of the sports car. Even dressed down in merely a light primer coat, the Puritalia still cuts quite a figure, paying an overt homage to the original Shelby Cobra.
Featuring an aluminum tub construction combined with a tubular steel subframe and lightweight carbon fiber bodywork, the Puritalia tips the scales at a mere 2403 pounds and offers a choice of either a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 producing 445 horsepower or a supercharged variant outputting over 600 horsepower. In either configuration the Puritalia Roadster certainly shows a lot of promise, and we look forward to seeing the project come to fruition.
