Rumor: 2016 Polaris Slingshot

Cars, News I By Winding Road Staff I March 04, 2014
Is it a car or a motorcycle? These days, with vehicles like the Campagna V13R and the Morgan Threewheeler running around, it’s getting harder and harder to tell. What we can tell you is that this side-by-side trike by Polaris – a brand which is typically associated with ATVs and other off-road vehicles – has another name to add to that list in the form of the soon-to-be-announced Slingshot.

Official details are still nonexistent at this point, but the specifications included with these patent renderings indicate that the Slingshot is going to be powered by a 2.4-liter Ecotec four cylinder engine sourced from General Motors. Output will likely be somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 horsepower.

The patent also indicates that the rear-wheel would be belt driven, and it would also offer electronic power steering, anti-lock brakes, traction control, and vehicle stability control.

Since no official announcement of the vehicle has been made as of yet, we’re also in the dark about when we might see the Slingshot in showrooms. However, this press release indicates that the Slingshot product line will be debuting in 2014, and from the looks of these renders, we may be seeing the Slingshot sooner rather than later. Stay tuned for updates as we have them.
