Driven: 2010 Scion tC

The Scion tC looks the part of the sporty coupe. Our test vehicle, in particular, had a dashing look about it, with optional features giving it that more athletic appearance. Also, it was equipped with a manual transmission, which gave promise for a good, enthusiastic experience as we spent some fast miles with it on some of our favorite local straights and twisties, learning its strengths and weaknesses.

List: Top Ten Spring Break Cars

It’s about that time of year again; if you’re a member of the 21-or-close-enough set, you’re likely to be planning some kind of splashy road trip to the sun-drenched lands. Florida, Mexico, it doesn’t matter, you’ll still need some wheels that look decent and have at least some room for a few of your closest party people. Our top picks for Spring Break cars put an emphasis on image, with a bone thrown in for practicality, occasionally.

Driven: 2010 Honda Element EX With Dog Friendly Package

We’ve said it before: we love dogs. And, although the Honda Element isn’t necessarily an enthusiasts’ vehicle, we were enthusiastic about getting a chance to test the Dog Friendly edition (only available on the Element EX). We were eagerly hoping Buster and Magnolia, our test dogs, would enjoy it, too.

Secondhand Gems: $17K Front-Drive Heroes

Front-wheel drive gets a bad rap. Not every performance machine on the planet needs a buffet of horsepower and torque driving the rear wheels. And yeah, torque steer can sometimes be a handful, but then again, reining in a Corvette ZR1 on an aggressive launch isn’t exactly a simple case of point and shoot. Like it or not, plenty of really great cars tend to be overlooked just because they’re labeled as wrong-wheel drive, and folks, that’s just a shame.

2010 Chicago Auto Show Wrap-Up

We just finished up our coverage of the 2010 Chicago Auto Show, and we saw a lot of new and concept cars, some fantastic, some milquetoast. Here, all in one place, is the list and links for our Chicago coverage.

Chicago 2010: Live Shots Of The Honda Odyssey Concept

A common stereotype says that minivans aren’t cool. But look at this Honda Odyssey Concept — it’s pretty excellent. We like the new styling direction that Honda is using with its much-loved minivan, and we can’t wait to see what the actual production model looks like.

Chicago 2010: Honda’s Odyssey Concept Previews Its Next-Generation Minivan

Only a few months after Toyota pulled the wraps off of its all-new Sienna minivan, Honda is following suit with an updated version of its strong-selling Odyssey. And while Honda is referring to the van on display at this year’s Chicago Auto Show as a concept, we’re sure that it’s just a few small tweaks away from being production ready.

List: Ten Cars That Will Make Up Ground On Recalled Toyotas

Clearly, if you haven’t been living under an internet-, television, and radio wave-proof rock for the last few weeks, you know that all is not right with mighty Toyota. A perfect storm of defective parts and massive media attention have likely got more than a few American car buyers wondering where their next ride will come from. We’ve matched up a list of recalled Toyota products (excluding the floor mat issue-only cars, they’ll be fine) with a group of cars that we think can make big gains in this period of power vacuum.

Keepers: Acura Integra Type R—Shopping

Don’t think for a moment that there aren’t a couple million Acura Integras with big wings, body kits, and faux R badges running around the country. These clones can make finding a true R something of a challenge, but there are some sure-fire ways to separate the purebloods from the mixed breeds.

Next-Generation Honda Odyssey Concept Coming To Chicago Auto Show

While the world of minivans isn’t nearly as exciting(?) as it used to be, there’s still a large need for larger MPVs in our marketplace. Toyota’s all-new Sienna certainly brings a lot to the table, as do the Chrysler Town & Country/Dodge Grand Caravan twins.

Detroit 2010: 2011 Honda CR-Z, In Living Color

We’re stoked about the Honda CR-Z hybrid. You can (and probably should), read about what could be the first affordable and good-to-drive hybrid, right here. We’ve also got some live-from-Cobo shots of the CR-Z in the attached gallery. Check ‘em out.

Honda New Small Concept Unveiled In New Delhi

Driven: 2010 Kia Forte Koup

Not long after the launch of the Forte sedan, Kia now introduces the Forte Koup—a sleek entry into a class of vehicles dominated by the Honda Civic, Ford Focus, and Scion tC (which has lost a lot of its youthful Scion luster in recent years). Based on the same good-to-do groundwork as the Forte sedan, the Koup adds a bit more charm and slightly better dynamics to the Forte package; and without spoiling this review, it’s safe to say that Kia may have just built the best coupe available for under $20K.

List: Truly Cool Minivans

Toyota is pleased with its new Sienna minivan, seeing it as a fresh alternative to the dumpy, uncool image usually associated with these oft-ridiculed people-haulers. Winding Road’s Seyth Miersma found out if it lived up to the hype, leaving us to paw through the WR family photo albums for past MPVs that transcend their unflattering stereotypes. Surely, the Sienna wasn’t the first vehicle of its kind to attempt to appeal to the more savvy soccer moms.

Is That You, NSX? Honda HSV-010 GT To Participate In Japan’s Super GT Series

We enthusiasts have always secretly wished for another iteration of the fantastic Acura NSX supercar. But while Honda’s new HSV-010 GT fits that bill, it’s not for road-ready consumption. Instead, the HSV (which stands for Honda Sports Velocity) will be competing in Japan’s Super GT championship.
