Now, there’s nothing wrong with minivans or other family friendly vehicles, per se. We like the versatility afforded by minivans just fine. We can’t deny that with the exception of a few, though, six- and seven-passenger vehicles aren’t exactly fun to drive. Unless you buy a Ford Flex with the mighty EcoBoost (biturbocharged) engine. After a week with this sports tank, we’ve decided that having more than two youngsters running about might not be so bad for a gear-headed parent.
As this year’s Auto China show in Beijing begins to slow down, it’s becoming more and more obvious that the Chinese show is not one to be missed. Helped along by the ever-increasing number of cars the Chinese economy consumes, auto makers the world over have taken notice of Auto China, and brought some serious hardware to reflect that.
So it’s nice to see French manufacturer Peugeot mix things up a bit, with its Urban Crossover Concept. Now don’t get us wrong, this isn’t really that radical a concept in the grand scheme, but during a largely production-based Beijing show, it’s pretty earth-shattering.
Honda debuted a pair of new concepts at Auto China 2012. Called the Concept C and Concept S, they are meant to express Honda’s new design direction.
Not very powerful, but its six-cylinder song is old-school Honda awesome. Handles like a larger vehicle, tipping too much into turns and lacking steering feel.
Completely put to shame by other cars in this class. Light, lifeless steering, slow, and overly soft in the bends. Do yourself a favor and buy a Ford Focus.
Honda, similar to other recent auto shows, has debuted a near-production-spec concept of the upcoming 2013 Honda Accord Crosstour an the New York International Auto Show.
Acura has unveiled the RLX Concept at the 2013 New York Auto Show. When we say RLX Concept, we actually mean 2014 RLX, which is what this is. Honda, and by extension Acura, have a habit of showing very thinly veiled production cars under the guise of concepts, which is exactly what’s been done here. In fact, we’ve already been told that sales will start in the beginning of 2013.
Every year around the first of April, automotive manufacturers and publications love to unleash April Fools’ pranks on unwitting journalists and readers. Sometimes they’re pretty clever, other times they’re very obvious, but either way, they’re inevitable. 2012 was no different, as many of these jokes rolled out on or in advance of April 1.
Honda’s CR-V isn’t a bad car. It’s comfortable, safe, reliable, not bad looking, efficient, and has all the creature comforts expected of a vehicle in its segment. It’s an all-around good vehicle if you need a lifted, five-passenger vehicle that can sip fuel. The problem is, it’s like driving water.
With the 2013 CX-5, Mazda is starting with a blank slate. This clean-sheet design will be Mazda’s volume crossover, as the CX-7 and Ford Escape-based Tribute will be (or already have been in the Tribute’s case) phased out.
Overall, it’s hard to argue that the GLI isn’t a good to very-good entry-level enthusiast car. With more room, and just a bit more practicality overall than its GTI sibling, only the car’s slightly less keen handling holds it back from being our go-to Volkswagen, in fact. It certainly made our Presidents’ Day a lot more interesting—we’ll take a handling loop to a white sale, any day.
We saw the concept in Detroit, and now Acura has debuted the production version of its ILX compact sedan. The new car marks a move downmarket for Acura, representing a sub-TSX line meant to draw younger buyers into the fold.
Continuing the expansion of the North American Car Of The Year winning Elantra range, Hyundai has unveiled the two-door Elantra Coupe alongside the five-door GT. The Elantra Coupe will give Hyundai its first true competitor to the small two-door offerings from Honda and Kia.
Jerry Seinfeld’s love affair with Porsche appears to be at an end, as the funny man is starring in a 60-second TV add for Acura, set to air during the Super Bowl on Sunday. Joining Seinfeld is the new NSX, a slightly perturbed owner, and Jay Leno. And there’s a rocket pack.
Okay, so it’s a Honda CR-V instead of a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California. And Matthew Broderick is actually Matthew Broderick, not the iconic title character of John Hughes’ Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. And he’s not skipping high school, but a day on the set. And there’s no Ben Stein, Mia Sara, or Alan Ruck.
Here’s the full list of Winding Road’s coverage of Detroit 2012. Check back on this post over the next few days, as there are always a few stragglers that make their way into the fold at the last minute.
We just watched as Honda revealed the concept version of the upcoming 2013 Accord Coupe in Detroit. Have a look at the nearly production-ready vehicle, or see our previous post for more information.
Honda has unveiled the 2013 Accord Coupe concept car in Detroit. While not production ready, this concept looks like it could be pretty representative of the final production version.
Acura has revealed the second generation of its RDX compact SUV, a vehicle that will go on sale in the spring of 2012, at the 2012 North American International Auto Show.
