Classic: Acura – Honda NSX

Honda started toying around with the idea of building a supercar in the early 1980s when it teamed up with famed Italian design house Pininfarina to present a concept called Honda Pininfarina Xperimental (HP-X) at the 1984 edition of the Turin Motor Show. Powered by a 2.0-liter V6 engine, the HP-X was merely a futuristic-looking design study that was never seriously considered for mass production but it showed Honda was already thinking beyond economy cars.

Driven: 2014 Acura MDX

Acura’s incremental improvements in the MDX formula have delivered a third-generation vehicle that should appeal to past and present customers. We may not appreciate its stoic and uncommunicative nature, but its blend of efficiency, technology, and outright comfort make it a worthwhile offering in a segment that will likely only get bigger and more competitive.

Driven: 2014 Acura RLX Advance

Our time with the RLX was quite revealing. It’s not, as we’ve established, a very sporty or fun-to-drive car. While we’d bemoan this fact, the reality is that there’s this tendency in the market to deliver far more performance than most buyers need, often at the sacrifice of comfort and refinement. The RLX is the inverse of this philosophy, prioritizing its occupants rather than just its driver. Every once in a while, we like that change.

Video: Modded RX-7 Spits Flames At The Dragon

Ask the Winding Road staff what their favorite places in the world are, and it’s only a matter of time before someone mentions The Tail Of The Dragon. Officially called US Route 129 or Deals Gap, the Dragon is a viciously winding ribbon of tarmac, made up of 318 curves spread across 11 miles. That’s about 29 curves for every mile of road. Making things more difficult are the precipitous drop-offs and trees that sandwich the road. This is not a route for the faint of heart.
