To help our pros stay sharp during the winter, Winding Road Racing will be supporting drivers at Sebring International for the the SCCA Majors race weekend on January 11-14, 2018.
Pirelli World Challenge TCA is a balance of performance series where science is applied to make the cars as equal as possible over the course of many races. WRR customer racing driver Jeff Sexton shows what BOP battles look like as he races Elivan Goulart (Mazda)
The 25 Hours of Thunderhill holds a special spot in our hearts. It is a race that is open to amateurs, on somewhat limited budgets (compared to Le Mans or even VLN), that draws interesting cars and drivers and is held on a very good track. Assuming you are with us on this, and that maybe you have some time to kill on Thanksgiving and the following weekends, here are some things to do:
When it comes to bucket list road racing tracks, pretty much everyone can rattle off most of the Big 10: Watkins Glen, Road America, Laguna Seca…
As the cold north winds begin to push temperatures below freezing in some parts of the country, it can be difficult to think about driving race cars. And yet, that’s what those of us who want to stay in shape for the upcoming season should be doing.
In this video, we see 2017 Pirelli World Challenge TCA race 1 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. We ride with Winding Road Team TFB customer racing driver Jeff Sexton. Jeff gets passed early on by Honda driver Tom O’Gorman in the Civic with revised BOP, but then…
We love racing enough that we take it seriously. And so, we think it is valuable for drivers to have a code that they live by, which, as your mother probably told you, basically comes down to the golden rule (“do unto others as you would have them do unto you”). Listening to scores of pro racers talk about other racers, we notice that the drivers with good reputations are inevitably those who raced fairly on track. Pinheads, unsurprisingly, are not revered.
Last week we asked our beloved readers for their input on pro racing. While 10% of you have done pro racing, 85% of you said you were interested in it. The biggest question mark was around costs. We asked how much you thought a pro season would cost, and here’s how you responded…
We want to know your thoughts on participation as a driver in pro customer racing; we’re not talking about spectating (although we’re interested in that too, but at a later date).
The development and funding of top-level, and now mid-level, race car development and racing series are heavily influenced by car manufacturers. Racing is expensive, so support is needed from companies that benefit from the exposure racing provides.
Winding Road had the pleasure of supporting 6 cars in national championship road racing series this year and we have a few observations from this about your choices in how to compete in these national championship series:
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: MX-5 Cup offers some of the closest racing in the country. Here we ride with Winding Road customer racing driver Tom Martin III at a recent Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup race at Watkins Glen International.
Of course, almost no racer is totally disconnected from reality. But we sometimes see a more subtle form of disconnection, and that is the one between race strategy and the dynamics of your class.
Periodically, we present thoughts from a racer, an official or a team leader on how to make racing better. This week, we have a blog from Stefan Johansson that appeared on Racer.com.
In support of the 2017 SCCA Runoffs, Winding Road Racing is offering over $30,000 in contingency prizes to successful drivers. The 2017 Runoffs will be held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway from September 25 through October 1.
Ever wondered how F1 teams can race in Budapest one week, and Spa-Francorchamps the next?
The British Open is one of the four golf tournaments classified as a “major”, a term appropriated by the SCCA but with a longer-standing history in the world of golf.
Since we are at the track most weekends running cars in Pirelli World Challenge, MX-5 Cup, SCCA and NASA events, we see a lot of racing up close. We’re generally not watching the overall race, but are working with specific drivers to help them succeed.
The team at Winding Road Racing is always interested in ways to improve the racing experience. Today, we’re interested in getting your feedback on leasing and renting racing cars.
Here we see Winding Road Team TFB ace Mark Drennan driving a 45 minute NASA sprint race at Circuit of The Americas. Mark runs the car at, and thus sometimes over, the limit of adhesion. When you have excellent car control skills, you can do this.
Here we see Winding Road Team TFB driver Mason Filippi (#12, Shmib.com) in Pirelli World Challenge Touring Car race 2 from Mosport (May 21, 2017). That race started with light rain. The team sent Mason…
