Ford Fiesta ST Price Undercuts Veloster Turbo, 500 Abarth

That’s right folks, Ford’s EcoBoosted hot hatch, the little brother to the Focus ST, will start at just $21,400, undercutting both the Hyundai Veloster Turbo ($22,100) and the Fiat 500 Abarth ($22,000).

Jeep Previews 2014 Cherokee With Radical Design

The twin grilles, with the traditional seven-slat up top and the gaping maw along the bottom is just odd. It looks like a meth-addled piranha. One of the more interesting styling cues we see is the way the top half of the upper grille curves along with the hood, giving the Cherokee a sleeker, more aerodynamic look than previous Jeeps. That part we like.

2013 Mazdaspeed3 vs. 2013 Ford Focus ST: A Morning Conversation Between Editors

Every morning at 9:00, Winding Road editors Brandon Turkus and John Beltz Snyder have a little chat online about the weather (snowy), how we’re feeling (could use a coffee), and about the cars we’re driving. These conversations can sometimes be pretty revealing about our weekly loans. One such conversation happened this morning, when Brandon asked John about his time with the Mazdaspeed3. The Mazda was immediately compared to the Ford Focus ST, and the issue of torque steer was the particular focus.

Driven: 2014 Mazda6 GT

The 2014 Mazda6 is exactly what we expect from a Mazda sedan: it’s fun without sacrificing comfort. It’s affordable, but still feels techy and advanced. It’s stylish without being in-your-face. We aren’t sure how it’ll fare in a world dominated by Camrys, Accords, and Fusions, but if Mazda can get customers behind the wheel, we think it’ll be a pretty easy sell.

Team Winding Road: Epic-osity, 2013 Edition

Each year, your humble editors like to run one epic event. We do it because, well, it seems epic and we like epic. And, of course, we do it to share with Team Winding Road members and friends. Last year, we did Targa Newfoundland. This year, we thought we’d run the 25 Hours Of Thunderhill. Here’s the car we chose; it arrived over the weekend.

Detroit 2013: Ford Atlas Concept

Ram may have won North American Truck of the Year, but Ford is determined to have the last word at this year’s North American International Auto Show. That last word is this, the Atlas Concept.

Detroit 2013: Cadillac ATS, Ram 1500 Take North American Car/Truck Of The Year

Traditionally one of the first announcements of the North American International Auto Show, we now know the winners of the North American Car and Truck of the year.

Driven: 2013 Toyota RAV4

Sometimes, covering the conventional requires the unconventional. Cars don’t get much more conventional than the Toyota RAV4. This is bread-and-butter, basic, crossover transportation. If that’s all you really need, then we strongly suggest you go out and look at the RAV. However, if the RAV is a bit too jack-of-all, master-of-none, we’re going to outline three alternative takes on the RAV4’s crossover formula.

LA 2012: Auto Show Wrap-Up

With press days for the LA Auto Show nothing more than a memory, it’s time to compile everything that debuted leading up to and during this year’s show. It was a decidedly green show this year (not that uncommon for the LAAS), with more than a few electric vehicles. Ford’s Fusion range was crowned Green Car Of The Year, which isn’t hugely surprising if you’ve read our reviews.

First Look: 2013 Toyota RAV4

There’s an epic battle royal brewing in the mid-size CUV segment. Over the past year, Honda, Ford, Mazda, Hyundai, and Mitsubishi have refreshed their family friendly crossovers. We can officially add Toyota to that list. This is the 2013 Toyota RAV4, and it just debuted at the 2012 Los Angeles International Auto Show.

First Look: 2014 Ford Fiesta ST

Ford seems quite committed to the hot hatch in the United States, as the Dearborn-based manufacturer has just announced another speedy five-door for the North American market. Slotting below the 252-horsepower Focus ST is this, the 197-horsepower Fiesta ST.

Rumors: Spy Shots—2015 Ford Mustang Scooped

Ford Mustang fans have had much to celebrate over the past few years. Models like the Mustang Boss 302 and the 2013 Shelby GT500 have not only elevated the entire Mustang brand to new heights, but also breathed new life into the American muscle car wars. And the ultimate winner in all this? You, the driver. Now, drivers may have more reason to celebrate if these spy photos, courtesy of Autoblog, are a true indication of things to come.

2014 Ford Fiesta To Get Three-Cylinder EcoBoost

So yeah, we called this one. Ford has announced plans to introduce its 1.0-liter, three-cylinder EcoBoost engine to the US market, starting with the 2014 Fiesta. The engine, so small it fits in a carry-on bag, should deliver 123 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque. That’s three more horsepower and a whopping 36 more pound-feet of torque than the Fiesta’s current 1.6-liter four-pot.

Driven: 2013 Ford C-Max Energi

There’s a very real chance the Ford C-Max Energi won’t be for you. Frankly, that’s okay, as this isn’t a car that’s meant to appeal to the masses (at least not yet). Instead, it’s a car for pioneer consumers—those who need to be on the bleeding edge of what’s possible in four-wheeled motivation. So while not everyone’s going to love the C-Max Energi, it’s likely to develop quite a dedicated following.

First Look: 2014 Ford Transit Connect Wagon

Our love of the Ford Transit Connect is no secret. We like this plucky cargo van so much we stuffed our friends into the back for a 500-mile road trip to Northern Michigan and back. They’ve just started talking to us again. Still, it was an interesting test of the most passenger-friendly version of Ford’s last small work van.

Driven: 2013 Nissan Sentra

The upshot of the Sentra’s cabin is mainly one of space. There’s an absolute surplus of room. With 37.4 inches of rear legroom, the compact Sentra actually bests the mid-size Altima sedan. It also packs more space for backseat passengers than a host of competitors (Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Mazda3, Chevy Cruze, Ford Focus, and Hyundai Elantra). The Sentra isn’t just extra legroom, but space in general. With 95.9 cubic feet of interior volume and 15.1 cubic feet of cargo volume, the Sentra crams a huge amount of interior space onto a compact platform.

Driven: 2013 Nissan Pathfinder

Being late to the party has its advantages. This was as true in college as it is in adult life. It’s especially true in the auto industry, where the buying public can be quite merciless in its criticism of outlandish or groundbreaking ideas (anyone remember BMW’s original iDrive?). Nissan has been quite late to the party with its Pathfinder SUV.

Rumors: Spy Shots—2014 Cadillac Escalade Scooped

At first glance, these new spy photos—courtesy of Automobile—seem to be of a new Ford, what with the conspicuous oval shaped badge in the center of the grille. However, we have been assured that this is actually the 2014 Cadillac Escalade in heavy camouflage.

Driven: 2013 Ford Focus ST

The Ford Focus ST doesn’t appear too dissimilar from the standard Focus upon which it improves, but there is plenty to set it apart visually. It has its own front and rear fascia, with lots of aerodynamic touches, including a bold rear spoiler that looks great in person. The center-exit dual exhaust tips are easily distinguishable (and eyes of passersby will be drawn to this feature by the sound—more on that later). The fact that it has been lowered 10 millimeters gives it a more athletic pose. Of course, the subtle-yet-bright ST badging lets you know exactly what you’re looking at.
