As this year’s Auto China show in Beijing begins to slow down, it’s becoming more and more obvious that the Chinese show is not one to be missed. Helped along by the ever-increasing number of cars the Chinese economy consumes, auto makers the world over have taken notice of Auto China, and brought some serious hardware to reflect that.
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its latest concept, the Concept Style Coupe, ahead of Auto China 2012. The sleek four-door coupe bares more than a passing resemblance, in terms of shape, to the CLS-Class that is currently on sale.
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the all-new GL-Class at the New York International Auto Show. The large SUV has been updated quite a bit, especially in the technology department, and is slated to arrive in dealerships in September of this year.
It has only been a few weeks since the full reveal of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class and already its been handed over to the lords of power at Mercedes-Benz’s AMG tuning division.
Unlike the 2012 vintage, the 2013 model will pack two different engine options. The top of the range will be the GLK350, packing a direct-injected, 3.5-liter V-6. With 302 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, the refined V-6 is 34 more horsepower and 15 more pound-feet of torque than last year’s model. Both standard and 4Matic models will hit 60 miles per hour in about 6.5 seconds, and top out at 130 miles per hour. Stop-start is also standard.

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the AMG-ified version of its SL-Class roadster. Called the SL63, it follows the Mercedes tradition of offering a hotter version of just about everything it sells.

Recent spy photos posted up on MotorAuthority show that Mercedes-Benz is giving its flagship vehicle, the venerable S-Class, the nip-and-tuck treatment. The updated car is apparently due out as a 2013 model sometime later this year with relatively minor changes. Updates include LED running lights, the introducing of a few new powerplants including a plug-in hybrid, and a bit of a stretch in overall length to name a few. The plug-in hybrid technology would be taken from the 2009 Vision S500 concept vehicle, which was first shown at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show.
According to BMW Blog, the blog’s namesake will be revealing a GT variant of its most diminutive offering, the 1-Series, at the upcoming Paris Auto Show in October. Unlike similar variants of the 3- or 5-Series cars, BMW fitted the new 1-Series GT with a new front-wheel-drive platform, and it should sport turbocharged three- and four-cylinder engines. BMW has its sights firmly set on the Mercedes-Benz B-Class with this new vehicle, which is thought to become available to buyers in 2014. You will also be able to order up your Grand Touring 1-Series with optional xDrive all-wheel drive or as a hybrid.

Now, there are seemingly as many variations on its function as there are cars on the road. The Formula 1 circus continues to rev up, as the various teams begin to unveil the cars that will compete in 2012. McLaren-Mercedes revealed its 2012 challenger today at its Woking, England factory.
The upcoming BLS, aimed at Audi’s A3 sedan, was recently snapped and scooped by Auto Express while doing some cold weather testing. While the heavy camouflage obscures visual details, we do know that power should be supplied by a 1.6-liter gasoline engine or, in true European form, a 1.8-liter diesel engine.
In fact, as far as big honking SUVs go, I quite liked driving this Mercedes.
Relaxing on the show floor next to its more powerful sibling was the E300 BlueTec Hybrid. It features a diesel-powered hybrid drivetrain, and it looks good in brown.
