Rumors: Spy Shots—Mercedes-Benz A-Class AMG

News I By Doran Dal Pra I March 23, 2012

It has only been a few weeks since the full reveal of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class—you can read the First Look feature on the A-Class we did at the beginning of March by clicking here—and already it has been handed over to the lords of power at Mercedes-Benz’s AMG tuning divison.

These spy shots, snapped by AutoWeek.nl, show that the A-Class AMG will receive some of the standard AMG treatment in the form of different wheels, a revised front fascia, and other cosmetic upgrades. On the power front, it’s rumored the car could produce around 300 horsepower from a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The A-Class AMG may also route that power through MB’s seven-speed 7G-DCT dual clutch gearbox, and put it to the ground via the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.
According to Mercedes-Benz, AMG was involved in the creation of the A-Class from the very beginning, giving even more merit to the claims that the car was designed with a serious sporting disposition. There is no definitive word yet on when or if the standard car and its AMG variant will make it to the States, but there is no doubt that the Audi RS3 and BMW 1-Series M are firmly in the crosshairs of the A-Class AMG.
