The 2022 BMW M340i sits in an interesting spot in the Bavarian brand’s beloved 3 Series lineup. After spending a full week with it, we really enjoyed its ability to be both a mild and comfortable, daily a-to-be cruiser, yet also transform into a fast, athletic, and thrilling sports sedan.
With 575 Horsepower and a 0-60 time of well below 4 seconds, this latest Jag rips.
Multimedia Editor Chris Amos gives us a chance to ogle some of the finer details of the newly announced 2015 Chevorlet Corvette Z06, shown here at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show.
After an 11 billion dollar investment by parent company Geely, Volvo can now proudly proclaim technological independence from all previous collaborations with other manufactures. The latest offspring from this multi-year investment is a pair of motors in new Drive-E line of powertrains, now labeled as the T5 and the T6. These four cylinder engines have been engineered with the express purpose of delivering maximum efficiency with minimal displacement. Not long after our stint in Las Vegas for the BMW M235i and 435i convertible, we headed back to Sin City to test out these new advanced powerplants in the 2015 V60 sportwagon and S60 sedan.
Now entering its third generation since the nameplate was brought back to market by BMW in 2000, the 2014 Mini Cooper and Mini Cooper S now shares key engineering elements with front-drive BMW models coming to market later this year. While on the surface the new Mini may not appear significantly different from its predecessor, underneath the skin, the new Mini Cooper tells a different story.
As America’s best selling full-size pickup for decades, we wouldn’t be surprised to find out that the all-new 2015 Ford F-150 is on more than a few shortlists for those cross-shopping new tow vehicles for trailers and the like. Sporting an all new look and aluminum construction, the new truck sheds some weight and adds a 2.7-liter V6 EcoBoost to its lineup of motors available for the 2015 model year.
At this year’s Detroit Auto Show, Multimedia Editor Chris Amos spent some quality time with Porsche’s newest hypercar, the 918 Spyder. Set to take on the likes of the McLaren P1 and the Ferrari LaFerrari, the 918 looks to set a benchmark in sportcar engineering.
While we were out in the Nevada desert putting the M235i through the ringer at Las Vegas Speedway, BMW also gave us a chance to get behind the wheel of their newest drop-top coupe, the 4-series hard top convertible. In 435i configuration and equipped with an 8-speed automatic, one might expect this 4-series to provide a fairly similar experience to that of the M235i, which comes boasting essentially the same drivetrain. But in practice, the 435i exhibits a significantly different character that in turn gives this substantial two door a fundamentally different mission.
As the first M Performance model to be offered to American buyers, the 2014 BMW M235i has a significant burden to bear. Not only have BMW enthusiasts been demanding a new “affordable” sport coupe from the Bavarians for years, the M235i also has the considerable task of making the case to buyers in the United States that BMW’s new mid-range sport level has a reason to exist. Perhaps even more importantly, the M235i also has to assure the faithful that BMW’s recent proclivity for placing M badges on vehicles we wouldn’t expect to find them on is not a dilution of the brand and its implication. While much of that will ultimately be left to individual perception, we’re also happy to report that BMW’s decision to give us a chance to flog the M235i around the oval and road course at Las Vegas Speedway was not a regrettable one.
At last week’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Multimedia Editor Chris Amos got a chance to get up close and personal with the latest boosted 911 from Stuttgart.
With the recent announcement of the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang, we wanted to give the current generation Mustang a proper send off before putting that pony out to pasture.
One of my earliest automotive memories is of my father’s 1986 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. As a wee lad, I remember a car that was seemingly endless in size, power and presence. Awash in leather and chrome, this was clearly a vehicle whose main mission in life was to announce to the world that the owner had arrived – both literally and figuratively. As the current flagship model of the Cadillac brand, in many ways the XTS is the spiritual successor to that Fleetwood. But where the Fleetwood had a more or less singular design goal from the onset, the XTS Vsport is asked to do a number of things well – some of which are intrinsically opposed to one another.

Making good on their promise of a new product every model year, McLaren has taken the wraps of their latest creation, the 650S. Due for a proper debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, the 650S takes the already-stellar McLaren MP4-12C underpinnings and stretches the performance envelope even further. Set to be slotted between the MP4-12C and the P1, the 650S improves upon the 12C in numerous ways.
Debuting in 2008, Dodge threw its hat back into the pony car ring with the Challenger, a vehicle which rides on a shortened version of the LX platform which underpins the Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300. The Challenger saw a minor refresh for the 2011 model year, which brought updated infotainment systems, interior appointments, revised suspension geometry, and some very minor visual tweaks. Now looking into the 2015 model year, the Challenger sees another refresh, this one of much more significant scope.
