Base Versus Loaded: 2014 Porsche 911 GT3

We’re reviving the Base Versus Loaded series, and to start things off, we’ve got the all-new, auto-only Porsche 911 GT3. Dive into the options with us below.
Part of the fun of playing with Porsche’s model configurator comes from tacking on some of the ridiculous options that Porsche offers its customers. Our three favorites from the GT3? A $165 leather key pouch, a $380 leather-covered fuse box cover, and the $325 silver wheels (which we don’t like merely because the standard hoops looks so good).
There’s a lot here that we couldn’t live without, on the GT3, though. Porsche’s brilliant carbon-ceramic brakes are a must-have item if you’re thinking about approaching a track. It’s a tough pill to swallow, at $9210, but we suspect it’s one that will pay for itself the next time you overcook it into a corner. Porsche’s LED headlights are a no-brainer, at just $3110, although we could probably do without the $510 ambient lighting kit.
Winding Road’s ideal 911 GT3 would looks like this: White exterior, LED headlights, carbon-ceramic brakes, the no-cost 90-liter fuel tank, the adaptive sport seats, and of course the carbon-fiber interior package. Heated seats, satellite and HD radio, and the sound package would be the primary options. All told, we’d be shelling out $152,375 for the Winding Road GT3.
