Video: McLaren Showcases Aerodynamics Of P1

News I By John Beltz Snyder I April 18, 2013
Today, McLaren has released the first of two videos about the design of the new P1. This video, called Designed By Air, showcases the car’s aerodynamics.

It’s a display of the old adage “form follows function,” but it also gives us another look at the P1, which McLaren calls “the most aerodynamically advanced car in the world.” If you’re a design or aero geek, you’ll appreciate the visual demonstration of how air flows over, under, and around the car, particularly with regard to the adjustable rear wing.

The video also hints at an “interactive experience for desktop and tablet” coming next month. Interesting.

Enjoy the video below, or head over to our Master Landing Page for more. Scroll down below the video for the accompanying press release from McLaren.

McLAREN AUTOMOTIVE SHOWCASES HOW THE McLAREN P1™ HAS BEEN ‘DESIGNED BY AIR’
Apr 18, 2013

The key to the performance for the McLaren P1™ is aerodynamics, and a new web experience, previewed by the ‘Designed by Air’ short film, is the first chapter of a two part series telling the extraordinary story behind the design of the McLaren P1™.

The experience takes participants on a journey as the car is born from raw metallic and carbon elements and is crafted by airflow. The story evolves to unveil the McLaren P1™ within the wind tunnel highlighting the aerodynamic focus of the car’s design.

Expanding into further sections the experience will reveal an interactive 3D model of the McLaren P1™ with further information about the finely honed aerodynamic features. The programme also showcases the McLaren P1™ in simulated urban, alpine, highway and track environments, detailing how the active aerodynamic systems adjust and adapt to deliver optimum performance for differing driving conditions.
