McLaren Teases Sports Series, Looks Back at Street Car Heritage

Today McLaren released another image of the upcoming the Sports Series, giving us a full view of a crossed-up prototype in minimal camouflage. Set to go toe-to-toe with the likes of the Audi R8, Porsche 911 and Mercedes-AMG GT, the Sports Series will be McLaren’s “entry level” offering, slotting below the 650S with a cost of around $180,000.

Audi Reveals Finalized Race Calendar for the Audi Sport TT Cup Series

Just a few short weeks after announcing the new series, Audi has a finalized race calendar for the Sport TT Cup. 165 drivers from 30 nations have applied for the new one-make series, with 18 slots to be permanently awarded by quattro GmbH in spring of 2015, and six other cockpits set to be filled by a rotating roster of guest drivers. The series will be held in conjunction with DTM events starting on the first weekend in May at the DTM opener at Hockenheim.

Jaguar Launching New Historic Racing Series

Jaguar has announced that it will be creating its own one make series for vehicles made by the British automaker before 1966. Accordingly, the 2015 Jaguar Heritage Challenge will offer entry to C-Types, D-Types, E-Types and Mk I and MkII sedans of said vintage. The series builds upon the success of the Jaguar E-Type Challenge and will be administered by the Historic Sports Car Club.

SCCA Announces Changes to SM Class Modification Rules

In the wake of the 2014 SCCA Spec Miata Runoffs debacle on October 10th at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in which the first six cars to finish the race were found to be out of compliance during post-race inspections, the SCCA has posted a memorandum outlining changes to class rules in order to address what has clearly become a widespread issue in SM racing.

Mazda Reveals 2016 MX-5 Cup Racer, New Global Racing Series

ChumpCar Announces 2015 Calendar, Region Realignments

The powers that be for the ChumpCar World Series have announced their plans for the 2015 race season, and it contains more than 50 events throughout the year at tracks like Road Atlanta, Watkins Glen, Lime Rock and Sebring International. Additionally, due to some IRS restrictions, ChumpCar has announced plans to continue racing activities in Canada by way of the ChumpCar Canada “club”. As they explain it, this design will still allow members from either side of the border to compete in each other’s events, though voting influence will be restricted to nationality, and most importantly, Uncle Sam is kept at bay. The Chumps also spelled out some changes to the Central and Eastern region boundaries as well.

Cosworth Brings Real-time Telemetry Data to Indycar Fans

This week Cosworth announced the launch of its Cosworth Live On Air system, a new data retrieval program that will be integrated into the Verizon Indycar 14 app, which is available for both iOS and Android platforms. The new system sees WiMAX high bandwidth transmitters fitted to racecars competing in the Indycar series, allowing said cars to send out detailed performance, telemetry and diagnostic data to race fans as the race progresses in real time.
