The 3/4 ton or 1 ton trucks tend to be large (may not fit in a garage) and unwieldy (try parking a dually) and often have harsh ride quality. Half ton pickups have been gaining in capability in the past few years. Ford now has a diesel option for the F-150 that brings the towing capacity in this test truck up to 10,700 lb. There are other drivetrains in this capability range, but some drivers prefer a diesel for unstressed torque delivery and better fuel mileage.
