Spy Shots: Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG Caught

News I By John Beltz Snyder I August 20, 2010

Lately, we’ve been seeing a lot of Mercedes-Benz cars, particularly of the AMG line, caught in the lens of our spy photographer. The latest is the SL AMG.

In plain sight, we see the big new brakes it will be sporting. Camouflaged from view are the big front air intakes and the quadruple exhaust in the rear. The new SL AMG will use the new 5.5-liter biturbo V-8, good for 571 horsepower. We’re not sure if it will keep the SL63 monker.

Scroll down for some more details from the photographer.

The guys over at the Mercedes power factory AMG have some busy days. They are not just building the super car SLS but also developing several new cars right now. SLS Roadster, CLS AMG, SLK AMG and ML AMG are some of the new prototypes we already have showed you, and now it’s time for the very first spyphotos showing the AMG version of the upcoming SL, the SL 63 AMG. Still under heavy camouflage but we can see that the cammo around the front spoiler is different and hiding some big air intakes. Also the brakes, with cross drilled discs in both front and rear are some sizes bigger then we have seen on the normal SL prototypes. Same thing with the calipers. Those are things that are hard to hide, what’s easier to hide are the quad exhaust pipes, here looking like normal pipes in an attempt to fool us.  Power will come from the new 5,5 liter V8 bi-turbo engine developing some 571 hp connected to the AMG Speedshift  MCT 7-speed sports transmission.
