Rumor: 2015 Porsche 911 GT3 RS Revealed in Patent Photos

Cars, News I By Bradley Iger I August 01, 2014
Porsche has been taking its time developing the hardcore version of the already potent 991 generation 911 GT3, which is understandable given the latest GT3’s inclination to spontaneously combust. Some lightly camouflaged GT3 RS test mules were spotted testing in Nürburg earlier this year, but these photographs, used for patent filing and discovered by CAR, now show us the new GT3 RS in full form.
While the large Turbo-style rear intakes would indicate that the GT3 RS may be getting forced induction, sources indicate that test cars at the Nürburgring have been heard emitting a soundtrack much more like a high winding, naturally aspirated mill rather than the more muted song of a turbo flat six.
We expect the GT3 RS’s output to slot in between the 469hp of the standard GT3 and the massive 552hp generated by the motor in the 911 Turbo S. If recent history is any indicator, we also expect that, due to its ability to generate superior performance numbers and appeal to a wider range of drivers, the paddle-shifted seven speed PDK transmission will most likely be the only transmission offered in the GT3 RS.
There’s no official pricing or release timeframe for the GT3 RS, so while we wait, let’s check out this epic road trip we did through locations like Telluride and Las Vegas in the incredible 997 generation GT3 RS 4.0:
