Global car manufacturer Stellantis is back with its annual “Drive for Design” contest for high school students. Now in its 11th year, the contest aims to encourage young minds to explore and innovate the future of the automotive industry by designing the next-generation Ram EV truck. As the world’s focus shifts towards sustainable electric vehicles, it is crucial to foster creativity and innovation in the industry, and Stellantis is doing just that.
High-school students in grades 10-12 across the United States are eligible to participate in the Drive for Design competition. The challenge is to create an original, innovative design for the next-generation Ram EV truck. The competition is an excellent opportunity for aspiring designers to showcase their talent and be recognized for their creativity. The top prize is an internship in the Ram Truck Exterior Design Studio, a rare opportunity to work with industry professionals and gain valuable experience.
The Drive for Design contest is a testament to Stellantis’ commitment to nurturing young talent and providing a platform for students to explore careers in automotive design. The program is powered by the passion of Mark Trostle, vice president of Ram Truck and Mopar Design, who won the competition as a high schooler in 1987. Trostle says that participating in the competition gave him the confidence to pursue a career in automotive design. Now, he wants to help students find their passion and connect it with the automotive industry.
All Drive for Design entries must be submitted by April 21, 2023, and will be evaluated by a panel of judges. The winner will receive a Wacom MobileStudio Pro 16 tablet and an internship at the Ram Truck Exterior Design Studio this summer, subject to eligibility. The winning sketch will also be featured on Stellantis’ social media platforms. The second and third-place finishers will receive an Apple iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, Virtual Day of Design portfolio review with members of the Stellantis Design Team, and a scholarship to the College for Creative Studies’ four-week summer program, VisCom 1.
The Drive for Design contest is an excellent opportunity for high school students interested in automotive design to get hands-on experience and guidance from industry professionals. Stellantis encourages students, teachers, and parents to follow its social media channels to learn about careers in automotive design. Weekly contest updates and content will be posted every Tuesday and Thursday with the hashtag #DriveForDesign.
