Former Formula One and Current IndyCar driver, Romain Grosjean, is embarking on an exciting new chapter in his racing career. As the countdown to the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with LMDh begins, Grosjean is set to take on the role of a factory Lamborghini driver, representing the iconic brand in these highly anticipated championships.
At 36 years old, Grosjean has an impressive racing background, with 179 race starts in Formula One over nine seasons from 2012 to 2020, as well as appearances in 2009. Since 2021, he has been competing in the IndyCar Series. However, his passion for endurance racing has led him to join Lamborghini’s Squadra Corse motorsport division. In January 2023, Grosjean made his debut for Lamborghini at the Daytona 24 Hours race, driving a Huracán GT3 EVO2.
Now, with the development of Lamborghini’s LMDh racing hybrid prototype gaining momentum, Grosjean is playing a crucial role in shaping the team’s future. The LMDh car, powered by an all-new 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine limited to 680hp by regulations, holds great promise for the upcoming championships.
Grosjean expressed his love for endurance racing, stating, “I love the atmosphere, and I love the fact that we were able to represent such an iconic brand.” With age and experience, his perspective on racing has evolved. While young drivers focus on speed, Grosjean finds joy in teamwork and the shared pursuit of excellence. He understands the importance of compromise and ensuring the happiness of everyone involved in the team.
Endurance racing presents its own set of challenges, and Grosjean appreciates the trust and camaraderie among teammates. He acknowledges the physical and mental endurance required from everyone, including the mechanics and engineers. For the drivers, endurance races demand preparedness for the unexpected and the ability to adapt swiftly.
The 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship, including the renowned Le Mans 24 Hours race, along with the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in North America, will be the battlegrounds for Lamborghini’s LMDh entry. This represents Lamborghini’s strongest commitment to motorsport yet, building upon their previous successes in various categories. Grosjean is thrilled to be a part of this project and speaks highly of Lamborghini’s brand, project, approach, and the people involved.
Reflecting on his life-altering experience at the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix, where he survived a harrowing crash and subsequent fire, Romain Grosjean shares how it changed his perspective. The accident reminded him of the fragility of life and the importance of appreciating every moment. Grosjean sees the accident as a positive turning point, emphasizing the need to enjoy life to the fullest while setting personal limits and taking calculated risks.
Beyond his racing career, Grosjean is a dedicated family man with a passion for exploration. He enjoys cooking and recently acquired a pilot’s license, finding peace and tranquility in flying. These activities allow him to expand his horizons and experience life from different perspectives.
On the ground, Grosjean’s chosen mode of transportation is a Lamborghini Urus Performante, a family car with a twist. Despite some disagreements over color choices among his family members, he settled on green for his car, adding his personal touch to the decision-making process.
As Romain Grosjean gears up for his new venture with Lamborghini in the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, he brings a wealth of experience, passion, and a refreshed perspective.
