Carroll Shelby to be Honored at This Year’s Goodwood Revival

Legendary American driver, car manufacturer, and entrepreneur, Carroll Shelby, will be celebrated at this year’s Goodwood Revival, held over the weekend of September 8-10, 2023.  The celebration will include cars raced, designed, and developed by Shelby throughout his illustrious career.  The centenary of Shelby’s birth will be honored with one of Goodwood’s signature tributes, featuring cars such as the MG-TC in which he competed for the first time in 1952.  The celebration will also feature an assortment of Cobras and Ford GT40s, for which he is best known.

Shelby’s impact on motorsport is felt each year at the Goodwood Revival, and his legacy will be celebrated during the 2023 event.  Shelby raced at Goodwood during the Circuit’s heyday and participated in one of the most important and dramatic races in British motorsport history: the 1959 RAC Tourist Trophy.  This race saw him share the winning DBR1/300 with his co-drivers Jack Fairman and Stirling Moss.  Earlier in the season, Shelby had won Le Mans, sharing the same DBR1 with Roy Salvadori.  Victory in the Tourist Trophy secured the World Championship for Aston Martin.

Aaron Shelby, board member of Carroll Shelby International, said that Goodwood held a special place in his grandfather’s heart, and he was honored that the Duke of Richmond and his team had chosen to honor the 100th anniversary of Carroll’s birthday at the 2023 Goodwood Revival.  The Duke of Richmond stated that it was a privilege to celebrate Carroll Shelby at the event and that he remembered Shelby bringing his infectious personality and competitive spirit when he first came to the Revival in 2000.  The Goodwood Revival will take place over the weekend, with the Shelby tribute joining the full race schedule.
