To celebrate the release of the Lamborghini Revuelto, the Italian automaker has joined forces with one of the world’s most renowned photographers, Anton Corbijn, to bring a new dimension to the Revuelto – a car that’s already turning heads.
Anton Corbijn, a Dutch artist with a career spanning over five decades, has made his mark in various creative fields, including photography, filmmaking, and creative direction. He initially gained recognition as a music photographer in his native Netherlands before relocating to London in the late 1970s. Over the years, Corbijn developed a distinctive style that made his work instantly recognizable.
While Anton Corbijn is acclaimed for capturing iconic images of legendary musicians such as David Bowie, Miles Davis, Joy Division, and Bruce Springsteen, his influence goes beyond photography. He played a pivotal role in shaping the visual and creative direction of two of the biggest bands in music history, Depeche Mode and U2, creating iconic album covers for “The Joshua Tree” (1987) and “Achtung Baby” (1991).
His artistic prowess extends to filmmaking, where he directed award-winning movies like “Control” (2007), “The American” (2010) starring George Clooney, and “A Most Wanted Man” (2014) featuring Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Anton Corbijn’s approach to his craft is refreshingly humble. He emphasizes that style emerges from the artist’s unique limitations and choices, rather than conforming to established norms. He draws inspiration from minimalism and resourcefulness, a philosophy that resonated with Lamborghini when he embarked on the task of interpreting the Revuelto.
The Lamborghini Revuelto, a triumph of design and engineering, represents the pinnacle of Lamborghini’s 60-year legacy. With a carbon fiber ‘monofuselage’ and a visually striking design, this hybrid supercar boasts a 6.5-liter V12 engine complemented by three electric motors, delivering a remarkable power output of 1,015CV. This formidable combination was a blank canvas for Anton Corbijn’s creative vision.
For the Revuelto project, Corbijn selected the Dolomite mountains as the backdrop. He aimed to create a visual narrative that portrayed the car as a foreign entity in the pristine forest, akin to a powerful and restless beast. Nature, with its inherent beauty, posed a unique challenge, but the Revuelto stood as a symbol of harmonious coexistence between man-made innovation and the natural world.
As Anton Corbijn delved into the project, he appreciated the significance of the Revuelto’s name, reflecting on its sculptural beauty and extraordinary speed. His creative process mirrored Lamborghini’s core values – transcending boundaries while embracing authenticity and courage.
“I try to keep authenticity in my work,” Corbijn notes. In a world where visuals dominate, he emphasizes the importance of staying true to one’s unique style. His approach is quick, akin to a documentary, a reflection of his dedication to his craft. Corbijn’s journey as an artist has been marked by persistence, self-belief, and an unwavering commitment to his craft, even when it was met with initial skepticism.
In the collaboration between Lamborghini and Anton Corbijn, two worlds collided – the world of high-performance automotive engineering and the world of artistic expression. The result is a breathtaking fusion of design, innovation, and creative vision. Through Corbijn’s lens, the Lamborghini Revuelto has been transformed into a rock star, a testament to the enduring power of innovation, artistry, and authenticity.
