Six years, hundreds of (better) car reviews, thousands of website postings, millions of written words, a couple of promotions, and an uncountable number of car-induced stupid grins later, I find myself writing this letter to you all about how I’m leaving the Winding Road team. That 9-5 story may have taken me longer to grind out than this goodbye will, but it’s a far more difficult task I do today.
Some people find time to stop and smell the roses, but I prefer the cars. With that, today I am happy to announce we’re shipping the public beta version of Carmagnum. What is Carmagnum? See a car, take a photo. If you’ve ever taken a picture of a car on the street to share with a friend, you’ve already “used” Carmagnum. It’s as simple as that.
There is a special kinship between those who drive well and those who travel well. But it’s not based on a shared desire for freedom or mobility. It’s not even a mutual passion for exploration. It comes down to the eventual realization that excess weight, expressed as anything carried without cause, is our enemy. That enemy is what binds us, and we’re willing to give up creature comforts to rid ourselves of our earthly trappings. We will compromise in order to maximize the things that are really important. Whatever isn’t weight is only there because we need it.
In addition to being the former Editor of Winding Road, Reilly Brennan is the Co-Founder of upcoming automotive hotspot, Carmagnum.com. (Expect to see a fully functional Carmagnum site in the near future.) Brennan also happens to be the owner of a deep and interesting personal car history—making him the perfect subject for the next installment in our series.
