The arrival of the much-anticipated Mazda CX-70 is slated sometime in 2024. Initially scheduled for a debut this year, this two-row mid-size SUV will finally grace American roads next year, according to a recent report. This news comes straight from Mazda‘s North American CEO, Tom Donnelly, who shared the update with Automotive News.
The CX-70 is part of Mazda’s ambitious strategy to expand its presence in the U.S. market, catering to the ever-growing demand for SUVs. With this addition, Mazda aims to bolster its lineup, which already includes popular models like the CX-30, CX-50, CX-5, and the larger three-row CX-90.
What sets the Mazda CX-70 apart is its innovative hybrid powertrain, a feature that aligns with the brand’s commitment to eco-friendly technology. While specifics about the hybrid system have not been officially disclosed, it is highly likely that the CX-70 will borrow the hybrid setup from its larger sibling, the CX-90 PHEV. This setup utilizes a 2.5-liter inline-four gasoline engine, ensuring both power and fuel efficiency.
Moreover, fans can anticipate the inclusion of Mazda’s new 3.3-liter inline-six engine, a powerful turbocharged unit capable of delivering either 280 horsepower or an impressive 340 horsepower, depending on the trim level. This engine option will undoubtedly enhance the driving experience, combining Mazda’s renowned performance with cutting-edge engineering.
For design enthusiasts, the Mazda CX-70 promises to be a visually appealing option. Building on the foundation of the CX-60, a model already available in Europe, the CX-70 will feature a widebody design. Although it will have a shorter wheelbase compared to the CX-90, it will share the same longitudinal-engine platform, ensuring a comfortable and spacious interior for both passengers and cargo.
The decision to introduce the Mazda CX-70 in the U.S. stems from the brand’s dedication to meeting the diverse needs of American consumers. With the rise in SUV popularity, Mazda aims to capture the market by offering a wide range of SUV options, ensuring that there is a Mazda SUV suited for every lifestyle and preference.
