Every week we sift through a truly amazing amount of “stuff” in the dozen or so hours we spend online—you know, the time spent not driving sweet cars. A lot of the cool stuff we find has to do specifically with new cars, naturally, but there’s also a huge amount of awesomeness that doesn’t completely fit in the normal Winding Road world. Once, we were in the habit of simply reading, watching, or talking amongst ourselves about this web detritus, but recently we thought it might be a good idea to start sharing it with you all. Thus, The Hot List.

 

We aim to bring you a list of the most interesting bits of information we run across. Ten worth-knowing-about things that may or may not be related directly to the world of cars, but all of which we think our typical enthusiast readers will be able to really dig into. We don’t know, from week to week, what will show up on this list, which is part of the fun for us and for you.

There’s so much content on YouTube that one couldn’t get through it all in a lifetime. But if one were to try, Dadabot would be there to help them find the ones they may have missed. According to the site, “Dadabot randomly finds the least viewed videos on YouTube (for better or worse).” Sounds like the perfect time-waster to us.

 

 

 

 

Science, man! We’ve all heard of cloaking devices, but this goes much further. Researchers at Cornell, with some help from the good ‘ol Pentagon, have found a way to mask whole events, as if they never happened. This “time hole” is created by changing the speed of light to make events unobservable. Or something.

 

 

 

 

In case you were sleeping as 2012 rolled around, Gawker has a video compilation of New Year celebrations from around the world. Here, you’ll see lots of skylines lit up by fireworks as the clock struck midnight in various cities.

 

 

 

 

Wanna move to Texas? Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul is selling his house in Lake Jackson. The four-bedroom, five-bathroom house has an in-ground pool with a slide, all for $325,000. Plus, you know there’s gotta be some gold buried somewhere in the backyard.

 

 

 

 

Are you into design and My Little Pony? Of course you are. Here, you can design your own pony and share it with your friends, you weirdo.

 

 

 

 

Once you’ve finished your pony, you might be looking to get back some of the manliness you abandoned when you added the finishing touches to its mane. The upcoming VideoPro app allows you to capture more than just video with your iPhone. It can overlay your images with various types of data, such as speed, g-force, and lap times. This app from Optrix will be available later this month for $9.99.

 

 

 

 

This Kickstarter project may not be as cool as the motorized shoes we saw a couple weeks ago, but it’s still pretty interesting. It is a biodegradable cooking pot made of paper. Weird, huh? Perfect for camping or in case of emergencies, the light, packable Hexa Pot can be used to cook food or boil water, and can then be thrown out without worrying about having a negative impact on the environment.

 

 

 

 

Nikon will be displaying the new D4 camera at the Consumer Electronics Show. The brand’s new flagship camera boasts 16.2 megapixels. It can shoot 1080p video, and can capture photos at 10 frames per second. It will be available late next month for $5999.95

 

 

 

 

The most expensive book in the world will be going up for Auction at Christie’s on January 20. It is a rare first edition of John James Adubon’s The Birds Of America. Featuring life-size illustrations of more than 400 birds, it is expected to fetch between $7 million and $10 million. That’s a lot of bills.
