Unveiled at the end of 2021, the Nissan SURF-OUT is an electric pickup truck that showcases the automaker’s plans for the future. The SURF-OUT is part of a series of four Nissan concepts that aim to demonstrate the company’s design language and commitment to solid-state batteries. These batteries are expected to transform the electric vehicle market by offering a lighter, thinner, and more affordable alternative to current EV batteries.
Nissan is investing heavily in the development of its EV lineup, dedicating $17.6 billion over the next five years to further its work in this area. The SURF-OUT is an exciting example of what Nissan is capable of, offering innovative features such as an e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive system, an onboard generator, and a cab that can be opened to the bed area.
Despite being a concept vehicle, the Nissan SURF-OUT offers a glimpse into the future of Nissan’s design language and EV technology. Although it won’t be available for purchase in the near future, it is likely that the influence of this vehicle will be seen in future Nissan models. The concept truck is expected to be sized below the Nissan Frontier, and its tailgate can even display messages to other drivers on the road.
We really I really like this, but think it would need a mid-gate, even in California. On the other hand, we understand that in a small truck, eliminating the rear seats gives a bigger bed. On the other hand, if you have a mid gate, you might as well have at least jump seats/storage back there!
