Handful Of Seats Open For Spec MX-5 Challenge

Features, Racing I By Jeff Sexton I January 24, 2018

The Spec MX-5 Challenge series has now received 28 applications for 20 seats (10 in the Eastern region and 10 in the Central region). But the series isn’t full yet because some drivers are completing their contracts and not all applicants are fully qualified. As a result, there is still time for interested, qualified drivers to get an application in

As many as 6 seats are still open, as series officials have contracted 14 drivers at the time of this writing. “We want Spec MX-5 Challenge drivers to have a great experience and that means good competition and clean driving throughout the pack. To come up with the best field we can, we’re taking our time in reviewing applications,” said Todd Lamb, one of the principals of the series. He noted, “We’re asking questions about driver resumes and driver expectations, and giving drivers some leeway to come up with sponsorship, so that we assemble the best driver group that we can.”

Applications are being reviewed for:

  • Strong, competitive drivers, but no “ringers” or FIA-ranked pros.
  • Driver reputation for being a clean and fair racer.
  • Driver ability to have funding in place and meet payment deadlines, including an initial payment upon selection.
  • Driver ability to represent the series well with other competitors, officials, media and sponsors
