Spy Shots: Updated Volkswagen Beetle Looks More Like It Ought

News I By John Beltz Snyder I October 04, 2010

We’re surprised at how we feel about this newest set of spy shots that just landed on our desk, of the updated Volkswagen Beetle.

Take a look. It looks more like the original Beetle, in that its roofline is not so much of a perfect arc. The hood appears longer, at least in proportion to the body, and it just seems more sporty and, from what we can see, simply more attractive.

The engines will likely be coming from the current Golf, according to our photographer, so, for us, that would mean a 2.5-liter inline-five, and a 2.0-liter TDI motor. Hopefully we’ll have more details soon, as this could show promise for the new Beetle.

Scroll down for some notes from the photographer.

So, today it’s finally time to show you the very first spy photos of the new Volkswagen Beetle. The guys over at Volkswagen really made their best to try and disguise it like the current version of the New Beetle but we spotted the difference right away. Just look at the greenhouse, which shows a totally different line then the current one. The new one is not that round anymore and the doors have also a slightly new shape.  That makes the car look much lower and sportier than the old one. The profile reminds a little of the Ragster Concept Car Volkswagen showed some years ago.

Engines and gearboxes are expected to be taken from the current Golf line-up. So, when will we see the New Beetle make its debut? Well, some think in USA in January while others expect it to debut in Geneva in March 2011. I just guess we will wait and see.
