Overview: 2015 Audi TT
Set to debut in the 2014 calendar year, the new Audi TT is setting its sights squarely on the Porsche 911 this time around. Riding on an all-new and lighter platform to go along with its roster of engines due for a freshening, including the especially-potent 380 horsepower unit used in the TT RS, dreams of going toe to toe with Porsche’s nearly untouchable sports car might not be pipe dreams anymore.
Frankfurt 2013: Audi Nanuk Quattro Concept
Alongside the Sport Quattro, Audi is displaying another all-wheel-drive concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show with the Nanuk Quattro. This V-10 TDI monster is capable of attacking more terrain than just the track.

Driven: 2011 Volkswagen Jetta TDI
At the launch of the new Jetta, we were able to go out and try the gasoline-powered versions. What we found was a car that seemed to fit the bill as far as the marketplace was concerned, but wasn’t quite ready for the enthusiast seal of approval. Still, we managed to have some fun in it, despite some concerns about acceleration.
Driven: 2012 Volkswagen Passat
Regardless of engine, the Passat was quite simply one of the best mid-sizers in terms of ride and handling that we’d experienced in some time. The damping walked a perfect line between sportiness and comfort, with very little lateral movement, even under hard cornering. Aggressive brake and throttle inputs didn’t do much to disturb the car either. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the most communicative of vehicles. It was difficult to feel out things like grip levels and cornering loads due to the lack of movement through the suspension.
Secondhand Gems: Frugal Fun
If your home garage rests somewhere in the United States, your local fill-em-up joint is probably north of $3.00 per gallon for the basic stuff, never mind premium. Yes, fuel prices overseas are generally much higher, but at least the foreign shores are home to neat oil burners that can nip 60 miles per gallon. Granted they’re quite slow, but as we’ve proven time and again in these digital pages, outright speed isn’t necessarily required for a rip snorting good time. And if fuel prices hit the feared $4.00-per-gallon mark, trading a modest 0-60 time for a pocket full of dead presidents will be a welcome deal for many motorists.
