For a while now, rumors have been circulating about that Ford will be launching the hot Focus RS hatchback sometime soon, potentially as a 2015 model. A recent report on Car Advice, however, appears to dispel that rumor somewhat.

Ford’s development of the RS–which was previously reported by Top Gear as making upwards of 320 horsepower–has been temporarily put on hold. The reason for the postponement? The company is apparently concentrating its efforts on developing some 11 new models based on the Focus platform instead of pursuing further development on the RS. Some of those new models are iterations of the Focus–including an electrified version–as well as the Focus ST and Kuga SUV.

When it does finally arrive, the RS will reportedly come packing a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine with power likely being put down through the front wheels. It’s rumored the RS could also receive all-wheel drive, but the car’s hardcore nature would likely be hurt by the system’s extra weight.

Here’s to Ford getting busy and quickly finishing the RS.
