The Camaro has been a mainstay of American muscle cars since its inception in the 1960s. However, the muscle car has recently faced the threat of extinction as electric cars gain popularity. But before it is fully electrified, Chevrolet plans to release one final version of the internal-combustion engine Camaro, expected to hit dealerships in the fall of 2024.  What can we expect out of the 2025 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28?  Let’s dive in.

This last internal-combustion Camaro is set to honor its track-focused predecessors, and it will be the spiritual successor to the fifth-generation Z/28. The 2025 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 should be a track-focused version, and could ride on GM’s longitudinal-engine Alpha platform, with spool-valve dampers from Multimatic, carbon-ceramic rotors, and calipers from Brembo. Chevy is also trimming all unnecessary weight, and the massive R-comp tires will provide race-car-like grip.

Under the hood, we can expect a version of the 670-hp LT6 engine from the Corvette Z06, producing 650 horsepower. We hope this engine will come with a six-speed manual transmission, but only time will tell. The 2025 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 is expected to be a lean, mean, racing machine.

Unfortunately, the clock is ticking for the internal-combustion Camaro. Chevy plans to end Camaro production in 2024 and replace it with an electric version. The new electric Camaro will likely be a different kind of beast, but the internal-combustion Camaro will always hold a special place in the hearts of muscle car enthusiasts.

The Camaro versus Mustang debate has been a heated topic of discussion for decades. The rivalry between these two American muscle cars is as intense as any sports rivalry. However, with the end of the internal-combustion Camaro, the debate may die out.

Chevrolet is expected to produce a predetermined number of the last Z/28s, likely fewer than 1,000 units, to streamline production. The last Z/28 did not fly off dealer lots, but its status as a durable track toy is practically legendary at this point. To keep its legacy alive, the last Z/28 will come without the radio and air conditioning delete option, making it the purest racing machine possible.

The 2025 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 is expected to be the last internal-combustion Camaro before Chevy replaces it with an electric version. This final version will honor its track-focused predecessors, and we can expect a lean, mean racing machine. The end of the internal-combustion Camaro may be bittersweet for some, but we can take comfort in the fact that it will be a fitting end to a legendary muscle car.
