Fresh off his first appearance in an F1 car at COTA over the weekend, FIA Formula 2 rising star, American Logan Sargeant from Florida, was announced as the 2023 replacement for Williams driver Nicholas Latifi. The only caveat – Sargeant needs to run 2 more FP1 sessions this season, and finish 6th position or better in the F2 standings to reach the minimum 40 points on his Super License.
Currently in 3rd, Sargeant will need to drive a clean race at Abu Dhabi next month to ensure he is not issued any penalty points on his FIA license. Confusing, we know, however it is unclear if Williams has another option up their sleeve in case Sargeant somehow doesn’t reach 40 points. (We believe he will be just fine, and we also believe there is another driver lined up “just in case.”)
