Our love of the Ford Transit Connect is no secret. We like this plucky cargo van so much we stuffed our friends into the back for a 500-mile road trip to Northern Michigan and back. They’ve just started talking to us again. Still, it was an interesting test of the most passenger-friendly version of Ford’s last small work van.
The days of the Ford E-Series are numbered. After decades of service, it’ll be replaced by the Transit commercial van, a nameplate that’s served European businesses for almost 50 years. The smaller Transit Connect is also seeing a hefty update, featuring new sheetmetal and a new range of engines.
Driving a Transit Connect is an interesting experience. For a start, you need to get used to the amount of visibility. I almost felt like I was driving a convertible at some points, as the super-tall windshield and windows grant an extremely airy feeling to the large cabin. Sightlines are excellent, with the only downside being the bar that bisects the rear window. You really can’t see too much out of the back end.
