Rumors: Model News — Tata Nano To Be Reconfigured For US, On Sale In 2015?

News I By Brandon Turkus I October 15, 2012
According to Automotive News TV’s First Shift, Ratan Tata, owner of the Tata Group (which includes Jaguar/Land Rover) has announced plans to bring the world’s cheapest car, the Tata Nano, to the United States.

As with most imported vehicles, it wouldn’t be just a straight import. The Nano would be refit, and see a commensurate rise in its roughly $2500 native market base price, to a target price of just under $10,000. Part of that price rise would be updating the car to meet American expectations. The current Nano’s accommodations are about as spartan as you can possibly get.

Tata is aiming to begin sales within the next three years. Despite owning Jaguar and Land Rover, there’s no word on a dealer network for the Indian economy car.
