Apple Announces In-Car Siri Compatibility

News I By Brandon Turkus I June 10, 2013
Apple held its Worldwide Developers Conference today, and in addition to all the cool info about iOS 7, Mac OS X 10.9, and a few new computers, there was an official announcement regarding iOS in the car.

Apple has teamed with manufacturers like Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, Infiniti, Kia, Jaguar, and Volvo to integrate its virtual assistant, Siri, into a car’s infotainment system. We already saw this (albeit via voice only) when we tested the Chevrolet Sonic RS, and came away with mixed feelings.

The new system will essentially pipe Siri into your dashboard, and pumping your iPhone onto your car’s dashboard. Considering we’re not going to see this integration in production cars until 2014, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that details are scarce. That said, the news that Apple is truly diving into the automotive realm is encouraging news for technophile gearhead everywhere.
