We’re putting together lists of all the things the automotive enthusiast should do before they die, whether it’s great roads to drive, events or races to attend, books to read, or driving maneuvers to master. As we compile them, we’ll share a few of them on WindingRoad.com from time to time.
Know this road? If you’ve got a favorite place to eat, a special place to stay, or know of something else worth checking out along the way, be sure to let us know.
Why We Love It: This area in Wyoming, near Yellowstone National Park, is a natural wonder, with nearby active geysers and a glut of American wildlife, including bison, bear, elk, and wolves, all with the Rocky Mountains providing the gorgeous setting. And where there are mountains, there are mountain roads. Chief Joseph Byway between Cody and Crandall is a great road for a car well suited to long, sweeping corners. Plus, driving across the Sunset Creek Bridge is an unforgettable experience.

Insider’s Tip: Forced induction will really help out when climbing uphill, and a manual transmission or selectable gears will really help save your brakes on the way down. Be sure to keep an eye out for wildlife on the road—a buffalo can really do a number on a car. Also, you’ll likely be sharing the road with motorcyclists, so be sure to afford them the proper awareness and distance, especially in the corners.
