Gallery: 1978 Lola T-620 Pro Super Vee

Cars, Features I By Winding Road Staff I February 12, 2014

Bring A Trailer offers us the chance to get our hands on this 1978 Lola Formula Vee (chassis HU-25), which has been fully restored and prepared for vintage racing. The car includes full log books since it was purchased new from Carl Haas Lola in 1978, and has SCCA Pro Super Vee and USAC mini Indy race history.

Powered by an 1800cc water cooled VW block with Bertils head and 45 DCOE Weber carbs. The period-correct engine was built for multiple-season vintage racing with reliability and enjoyment in mind, has been dyno tested at 181HP. The transaxle is a Hewland Mk9 5-speed. The entire chassis, including engine and box, has less than 4 hours on it (including dyno run-in).
The car turned solid 1:30-32 lap times at Willow Springs (Big Willow) despite hard compound tires and the anchor of her original driver bolted in. At 1100 pounds with driver, the performance is quite good according to the seller. It had several wins in the ’80s in SCCA club racing with multiple podium finishes.
You can check out some footage of the Lola Formula Vee attacking Big Willow here.
Only 26 T-620 chassis were originally constructed, and 14 are believed to still exist, but few can claim the originality of this chassis. The chassis and body are fully sorted and turn-key. It has had four owners, but the current seller bought the car new, then sold it, and then bought it back from the third owner.
It is now available in Anaheim, California for $23,500. Click here to email the seller directly if you are interested.
