WRR TV: Montecalvo Picks Them Off One At A Time At Road America

Ride along with Frank Montecalvo of Highlands, N.J. in the No. 66 Bayshore Racing DragonSpeed Mercedes-Benz AMG SLS GT3 as he battles his way through the field in Race 2 of the GTA class event at Road America on June 27th, 2015.

In this multi-class event which included a field of GT Cup cars, the relative newcomer Montecalvo started on grid in third position in class with Bryan Heitkotter, of Fresno, Calif., in the 05 Nissan GT Academy GT-R Nissan GT-R-GT 3 sitting on pole. Working his way through a densely packed field after a messy standing start that saw an immediate yellow flag, Montecalvo would pass Cisneros for second in GTA on lap 13, and four laps later, Montecalvo would take advantage of Heitkotter’s mistake at Turn 6 to take the lead and the eventual class win.

“It was a tough battle today since there are so many super fast cars in our class,” Montecalvo said. “This is a great track and I just tried to be patient. I was trying to race as clean as possible, and pick off each car as best as possible.”
