Track Decal of the Week: Road America

As auto racing was beginning to gain popularity in the United States in the 1940s and early 1950s, most events were held on public streets. Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin’s open road course was among many across the country that played host to numerous SCCA events throughout the era. After legislation brought a ban to racing on public roads due to safety concerns brought on by a crash at Watkins Glen in 1952, a man by the name of Clif Tufte brought together members of the Chicago Region of the Sports Car Club of America to develop plans to build a permanent private road course in Elkhart Lake.

The 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Sounds Pretty Serious

Earlier this week at the Midwest Automotive Media Association Rally in Wisconsin, a few members of the media got a chance to hear what the new supercharged, top-spec Challenger model will sound like. In their press release, Dodge alluded to the Hellcat breathing through an active exhaust system, one in which valves can open or close based upon throttle position and user settings, allowing exhaust to essentially change volume and tone based upon the driving situation.

Track Guide: Road America

Road America, located in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, is a favorite of many drivers. It’s a long circuit, at four miles, with some fast straights, technical turns, and lots of elevation changes. If you’ve driven it, you’re familiar with the infamous “Kink” turn, and you know to keep an eye out for deer. Here, we will add helpful videos, data, and links as we come across them.

Blog: Honda CR-Z—The Second, Purpose-Built Greenformance Car Arrives

The Honda CR-Z arrives at dealers this week, which seemed a fitting time to give another perspective on this interesting car. Having driven the CR-Z in and around San Francisco, we opted this time to try it in the Midwest on the flatter and more pockmarked roads between Chicago and central Wisconsin (the American Le Mans series was visiting Road America, so we chose that as a suitable destination).
