Very often when publishing comparison tests, we are asked about why some car or cars weren’t involved. This is especially true when we do bigger comparos (three or more vehicles) in segments with lots of competitors (mid-size sedans, e.g.).

Recently, we’ve discussed our love for functional vehicles quite a bit in the pages of Winding Road. Trucks, wagons, crossovers, hatchbacks, and SUVs might not be an enthusiast’s first choice for a purchase, but as daily drivers and useful haulers, functional cars not only provide a perfect mix of driving involvement and practicality.
One of our favorite ongoing discussions here at the Winding Road office is how we’d like to see some tuned-up performance variants of some of our favorite production cars. This conversation normally contains talk of turbochargers, wheels, spoilers, body kits, Recaro seats, speeding tickets, and power sliding. It’s fun to dream, isn’t it?
Despite the April Issue indication you may have noticed on the cover of this month’s Winding Road (check out our full new issue at www.magazine.WindingRoad.com), it’s actually just around the middle of the long Michigan winter as we write this. That’s bad news for anyone who values anything in the way of a short sleeve or a naturally occurring tan, but it’s surprisingly good news for us driving enthusiasts.
We lean towards that group of people that embrace four full seasons in all of their glory, and love to drive through each of them. Which is why we’ve been paying special attention this year to the motive joys that can be had when our world is white.
