So, as arduous a process as it was, we’ve gone through our extensive video library in search of the ten best videos. Some are relaxing, some will get your adrenalin pumping, and some will make you want to seek out your favorite stretch of abandoned road and just drive. We hope you enjoy them.
Due to its size, it’s obviously not meant to provide much in terms of sportiness. That doesn’t mean it is totally boring. A blown V-6 and torquey electric motor make the Touareg Hybrid shockingly quick for a large SUV, especially off the line. Still, the drivetrain doesn’t offer much sonically, particularly in low-rev cruising. This might be a valuable trait for its potential customers, but it doesn’t help the involvement score at all.
Seat, Volkswagen’s Spanish subsidiary, has brought a concept version of the Ibiza sub-compact to Auto China 2012. This is the Ibiza Cupra Concept..
In the newest issue of Winding Road, the Subaru STI and Mitsubishi Evo go head to head in a final bout for this generation. Plus, we have lots of other great automotive content this month’s issue.
We think the CC succeeds admirably at this mission. Upon approach the CC looks good, in a classical way. It isn’t quite voluptuous, but it is clearly designed with care rather than appearing to be the byproduct of a cost-engineering exercise. On the inside this feeling repeats itself, especially in the available Euro color combinations. The metalwork is clean, with attractive fit, and the materials are good. As is common on so-called four-door coupes, the rear headroom won’t work for passengers above six feet in height, but otherwise the seating is quite comfortable in the firm Germanic oeuvre.
Volkswagen unveiled its Alltrack Concept at the 2012 New York International Auto Show. The concept is essentially a lifted, all-wheel-drive, five-door version of the Passat TDI.
Audi has reportedly inked a deal with Ducati that gives it exclusive first dibs on the purchase of the storied Italian motorcycle manufacturer.
GoAuto is reporting that there is a good possibility VW’s competitor to the Mazda MX-5 will be produced after interviewing Ulrich Hackenberg, a senior management member at VW, at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.
Day one of the 2012 Geneva Motor Show is pretty much over. There was quite a bit of new and exciting sheemetal crossing the stages today, and we made sure to cover as much as we could. This is your spot if you happened to miss any of today’s Swiss stories. We’ll be updating this list as more cars are debuted on day two. Also, look for a finalized version of this list soon.
There’s no lack of concept cars in Geneva this year (is there ever?), with a special emphasis seemingly placed on those that can boast supercar looks and performance, hybrid or EV powertrains, and impenetrable names.
We originally saw the Volkswagen Cross Coupe at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show back in December. Now, VW has brought out a new version of the concept, complete with a fresh new powertrain in time for the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.
Mechanically, the GTI Cabriolet doesn’t depart much from the hardtop car. The 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder is still under hood, sending 207 horsepower to the front wheels via either a six-speed manual or a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Seventeen and eighteen-inch wheels are still available as well.
Overall, it’s hard to argue that the GLI isn’t a good to very-good entry-level enthusiast car. With more room, and just a bit more practicality overall than its GTI sibling, only the car’s slightly less keen handling holds it back from being our go-to Volkswagen, in fact. It certainly made our Presidents’ Day a lot more interesting—we’ll take a handling loop to a white sale, any day.
Spy photos of the next generation Volkwagen Golf have been flitting about the internet for quite some time now, but the cool hands over at Carscoop recently snapped the first photos of the three-door Mk7 Golf doing some cold weather testing.
When we first got our long-term Mini Cooper S Coupe, our editors spent one week behind the wheel, familiarizing themselves with the new two-seater. Impressions were generally positive, as we each applauded the handling and power of the car, along with some of its other idiosyncrasies.

Chicago’s 2012 auto show press days don’t start until tomorrow, but that hasn’t stopped a few early birds from unveiling new products. Volkswagen is one such manufacturer, taking the wraps off the new diesel Beetle.
Volkswagen, who’s The Force ad has seen almost 50 million views since its debut before last year’s Super Bowl, has released the highly anticipated follow-up, set to air during the second quarter of Sunday’s Super Bowl. Called The Dog Strikes Back, this is the extended, 75-second version, while a shorter spot will air during the game.
As of today, there’s no question that the Prius V wins within its small market segment. Of course that conclusion is helped along greatly by the fact that it basically has this sliver of the market—a very high-mpg small wagon—to itself.
It’s been said that the original Volkswagen GTI is the world’s first hot hatch. Respecfully, we disagree. The original Mini, especially in Cooper and Cooper S guises, has been terrorizing the bigger cars of the world for almost 50 years, starting with the first Mini Cooper back in 1961.
