For those of us who love to drive, having to take time off because of work, life obligations, or necessary automotive repairs and maintenance is no fun. We inevitably spend the weeks or months in which our cars are parked dreaming about getting back to performance driving at our favorite tracks. Thoughts of driving inevitably lead us to wonder whether our driving skills will have diminished after time away from driving at speed. Will my shifting be as smooth? Will I be able to brake as late as I did on that last session months ago? Will my lap times be the same as they were when I left off?

Pahrump, Nevada doesn’t sound like a very good place to drive an Aston Martin, does it? Say the place name out loud and, if you’re like us, you’re liable to hear something like the sound made by a drunken circus elephant sitting down in a muddy field. In fact, with apologies to Crapo, Maryland and Fleatown, Ohio, Pahrump is one of the least romance-inspiring place names we’ve come across.
According to Fiat and Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne, the company will likely bring Alfa Romeo vehicles to American dealerships starting in late 2012. He didn’t reveal which models would be sold, but the Alfa Romeo Giulia (Alfa’s 159 replacemnt) and MiTo sound like likely prospects.
One thing is for certain when it comes to Turbo Dodges; they’re backed by a very broad, dedicated enthusiast community that ranges from armchair admirers to technical wizards who can rattle off specific engine tolerances and decode VINs, while rebuilding transmissions, and yes, I do mean multiple transmissions at once. Having that kind of support base makes owning a turbo Dodge even sweeter, and for the enthusiasts who happen upon one of the rarer model/engine combos, it’s borderline necessary.
The Range Rover Sport is a vehicle that can go anywhere, do anything, and look trendy in the process. No, it’s not going to win any awards in within the Green crowd, but for the consumers who actually pay out for one of these (especially in Supercharged trim), it won’t matter. In our week with the Range Rover Sport, we found it to have more than ample performance, relatively good handling (for an SUV), and a pretty luxurious interior.
