10,000 people celebrating something, is a pretty big deal. 10,000 people gathering to celebrate a car, is an even bigger deal. And that’s exactly what will happen August 13-15, with a nationwide celebration of all things Mini.
Right on schedule, Mini is preparing a mid-cycle refresh for both its Cooper and Clubman models. Both models have been in service for a few years, and as is usually the case, are getting light refreshes, mainly consisting of revised front and rear bumpers, headlights, and taillights.
Who says green cars can’t go racing? Mini likes to go above and beyond when it comes to publicity stunts, and this is no different. This particular stunt involves the all-electric Mini E, and Germany’s famed and feared Nürburgring-Nordeschleife.
Anyone that has driven, ridden in, read about, or even paid a little bit of attention to the universe of Mini cars over the last few years, probably can understand that having the letters “JCW” attached to one’s Mini can mean magical things in terms of urgency and athletic handling. So, when the arrival of this John Cooper Works convertible happened to coincide with the first really beautiful week of spring weather we’ve had so far this year in southeast Michigan, we were understandably stoked.
It’s about that time of year again; if you’re a member of the 21-or-close-enough set, you’re likely to be planning some kind of splashy road trip to the sun-drenched lands. Florida, Mexico, it doesn’t matter, you’ll still need some wheels that look decent and have at least some room for a few of your closest party people. Our top picks for Spring Break cars put an emphasis on image, with a bone thrown in for practicality, occasionally.
According to Autocar, Saab is planning on making a competitor to the Audi A1 and Mini Cooper. Referred to by the code name “92,” the minicar is still a few years away from reality.
Some good, some terrible, all of these limousines have something special about them beyond mere length.
Mini is adding another model to its lineup, the Mini Countryman crossover. The Countryman is Mini’s first vehicle with four passenger doors. It also has higher ground clearance and larger dimensions than other Minis. Styling, design language, and, Mini promises, driving dynamics are still typical to the brand. (We’ll see about that last bit.)
Today, Mini displayed the Beachcomber Concept at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Earlier, we showed some photos Mini had released in advance of the show. Now we have this gallery straight from the show floor.
It’s a special time of the year here at Winding Road, when we think not only of the holiday season, but also the much-anticipated 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. These are the cars that we think will steal a lot of the attention at the show, which we’ll be covering January 11 – 12. Don’t miss out on your chance to get down to Cobo, too—NAIAS opens to the public on January 16 and runs through January 24.
Ahead of the Detroit show next month, Mini is releasing images and information about its Beachcomber concept car.
Aston Martin showed the first official photos of its luxury city car, the Cygnet concept. And it is adorable!
Our spy shooter sent us photos of the more powerful diesel version of the Mini Cooper.
Along with photos of the Mini Cooper S Diesel, as we are tentatively calling it, we received these photos over the holiday of the Mini Clubman with the more powerful diesel engine.
Back in early November, we drove the all-new BMW 550i Gran Turismo around the hilly, tree-lined roads of northern New Jersey and southern New York. While we were out on the United States’ eastern seaboard, the good people of BMW brought along a slew of other cars for us to test, including the all-electric Mini E. We’ve driven (and loved) the full range of gasoline and diesel-powered Minis, but would our affection stand true to the battery-powered E?
Over the last few months, we’ve been the lucky recipients of a spate of different Mini products here at Winding Road. From the rather rip-snorting Mini JCW, to a Cooper S droptop, to the presumably humble, plain-Jane Cooper we had most recently as part of an upcoming group test. This extended amount of Mini seat time (I do my best to hog the little beggars from my fellow Winding Roaders, whenever possible) has lead to a strange revelation on my part—I simply like driving the less powerful cars more.
We at Winding Road and NextAutos are always eager to test the diesel offerings from global manufacturers and we were grinning with excitement when the folks at Bosch offered us the keys to a Mini Cooper with a 1.6-liter diesel engine. According to Bosch, this Mini will achieve fuel economy numbers in upwards of 50 miles per gallon, which will shame many hybrid offerings currently sold in the States.
