This is the review page for the 2016 Mazda Miata. Future road tests, updated specifications, videos, and other relevant information will all be included here.
Mazda Motorsports and the National Auto Sport Association (NASA) have teamed up to introduce a ladder program where NASA drivers can compete for a chance to go pro, and race in the Mazda MX-5 Cup series.
A few years back, Mini had a habit of trolling Porsche, attempting to goad the German brand to pit its thoroughbred 911 against a Mini at Road Atlanta. This automotive retelling of David and Goliath did not go David’s way, with the Porsche walking away victorious. Clearly, Mini could learn something from Mazda, as the maker of the MX-5 decided to pit its small, rear-drive convertible against a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder LP550-2, a Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Convertible, a Ford Mustang V-6 Convertible, a Porsche 911 Carrera Convertible, and a Lotus Elise. Mazda did level the playing field, though.
For our American readers, this weekend is a holiday and is generally considered the unofficial start of summer. It’s also a great weekend for motorsports, with the Monaco Grand Prix, Indy 500, and Coca-Cola 600 all taking place on Sunday. If you’d rather do some driving, though, this video ought to put you in the proper frame of mind.
Next month, Mazda hopes to break its own Guinness World Record for “largest parade of Mazda cars” with a gathering of MX-5s in Lelystad, Holland. The event, called IMAX-5 2013, hopes to bring together close to 800 examples of the popular roadster at RDW Test Centrum for a drive through the Dutch countryside.
TeamSpeed and Autoevolution have each posted renderings of the 2015 Alfa Romeo Spider. While the renderings appear to only differ in color in backdrop, they look remarkably sharp, and could be a pretty close guess as to what the car will look like when it begins production.
If you wanted a small, affordable, and fun-to-drive convertible, your had to choose between the Mazda MX-5 and one of the variants of the Mini Roadster (if you’re wondering which one to choose, click here). That’s hopefully set to change, if Toyota’s latest concept is any indication.
We were offered a turn in a rare Evo GSR, complete with the old-school five-speed manual transmission. It had all the important bits, like the revvy, turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, but the addition of a third pedal changes the Evo’s equation considerably. Join us as we take it for a spin in our latest POV test drive.
Toyota’s game of one-upmanship goes something like this: take a GT86, the nimble, light, and fun-to-drive coupe, whose American cousin was one of our top cars, and remove the roof. Then place on a plinth and gauge critical and public reaction.
While there is little doubt the BMW Z4 is a capable, enjoyable two-seat sports car, it has typically put more emphasis on grand touring over outright sporty driving dynamics, and not since the Z3 has BMW made a vehicle that tries to purely pursues the “sport” in “sports car.” Rumor is, BMW is planning on changing that.
Sitting outside the Advanced Autosports semi between races at a Midwestern Council event at Road America back in August, Jim Kettelkamp casually mentioned a potential trip to Virginia International Raceway (VIR) for the 13 Hour SCCA Charge Of The Headlight Brigade endurance race in October. Already having enlisted Steve Krock, a suspension mechanic on the Ed Carpenter IndyCar team, Doctor Jim was looking for a third driver for the team. I switched off all rational decision making processes for a few seconds and signed up.
This month in Winding Road, the Mini Roadster takes aim at the long-reigning king of the segment, the Mazda MX-5 Miata. Plus, we pack a bunch of other automotive content in this issue.
If you are looking for a stylish, comfortable, reasonably priced, four-person convertible, you could do much worse than the Volvo C70 Inscription. If you are looking for a fun-to-drive, fast, sharp droptop, then you’ll probably want to look elsewhere.
This week we drive the 2012 Hyundai Azera.
The Mazda has been the undisputed king of the roadsters since it burst on to the scene 23 years ago. The Mini’s been one of our favorite hot hatches, but we’ve been plenty curious to see just how the all-new Roadster matched up with the legendary MX-5. To find out, we spent a day shooting, videoing, and most importantly, driving these two awesome roadsters. This’ll be a fun one.
GoAuto is reporting that there is a good possibility VW’s competitor to the Mazda MX-5 will be produced after interviewing Ulrich Hackenberg, a senior management member at VW, at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.
With the 2013 CX-5, Mazda is starting with a blank slate. This clean-sheet design will be Mazda’s volume crossover, as the CX-7 and Ford Escape-based Tribute will be (or already have been in the Tribute’s case) phased out.
Yes, it may be the middle of February, and there may be snow storm barreling towards your brave editorial staff, but that hasn’t stopped us from thinking about two-seat roadsters. One of our favorites is the Mazda MX-5 Miata. This affordable little roadster can be had with a five-speed transmission in the base model for just over $24,000.
Mazda unveiled the 2012 MX-5 Miata Special Edition at today’s Chicago Auto Show. The limited-run (only 450 will be produced) roadster is mainly an aesthetics package, giving the MX-5 a bit more of aggressive edge.
